Default Got my new turbo today for the engine im building :D

Went up to martin's place (reyland) today to fetch my new turbo for my mini, as he has removed it from doug's escort cossie as he is going smaller on that now.

Its a GT35R with .63 hotside housing

Just need to get the manifold made now to start bolting it all together, no idea when i will get enough time off work to actually get it into a car though yet.

Chip

p.s
His new escort is looking very tasty, and also saw the old one which he still has there, if ever there was an advert for rollcages its that car!

p.p.s
Nice to meet you martin/sean/the twins/dangerous

Dunno really till its done, as i dont know anyone who has built one of quite this spec yet, so its all a bit trial and error, somewhere in the 550-600bhp region would be nice though, although anything over 500 is a bonus, i wanted a turbo that would offer a relatively small amount of pumping loss due to a large turbine wheel though, and that would definately be ok even if i rev it to well over 8000rpm, so i figured that as this one came up at the right money it would be worth a try.

It may prove a little big though in which case i will have to step down to a GT30, but im hoping that wont be the case.

I think that was a typo, those things are massive, should have been called a "maxi" i think or something?

This in a proper mini, not something with the same wheelbase as a series 1 landrover.

FWD to begin with and see how i get on with it, may convert to 4wd later on, but the calibra stuff isnt great.

Not sure what colour yet but it wont be much of a sleeper as its impossible to leave it looking standard as im going to have to stretch the front to fit the turbo in.

yeah you have to extend the wings etc by 2" to fit a normal xe in one(unless its a clubby? ) you worked out how much you need to extend it by?

Its a clubman front, the engine fits and has another 4 of inches to spare or so, but turbo sits in front of the engine, so going to need to extend by 6" or so i should think.

sounds mental chip... how much will it cost altogether?

im more + more liking the idea of a mental mini, not as mental as yours though, but i know fook all about em...

how easy are they to work on (considering ive only owned escorts + fiestas)?

what are common engine conversions to make a mini eat much bigger cars?

andrek, was looking like about 20K altogether last time i added up.

vtec and vauxhall engines are both quite common conversions now.

GT30R

He wasnt really using the GT35R flat out, so he can get the same sort of power form the GT30 and have less lag.

Makes sense

just an a-series turbo lump like mine is plenty to scare the odd scooby driver (in the dry obviously)
