my turbo and manifold used to glow all the time!is it a sign of running rich or lean or anything?

Think its just a sign of beating it pretty bad thats all ( i hope ) well i was anyway, red lined every gear and just changed into fifth and it let go

not particularly, EGT's get very high when holding it flat out for a while, so high in fact that's when most pistons get melted but if you drive hard enough to see a glowing turbo regularly then it's best to make sure you have enough fuel top end

I noticed that when my rs turbo was running too rich the turbo didn't get as hot as when it was running correctly - Is this due to the extra fuel acting as a coolant? or is it just because it was not burning as well therefore not producing as much heat?

I've had plenty of N/A cars exhausts glowing.. add the restriction of an exhaust housing of a turbo... nothing too remarkable
