my temps only increase if left to idle

scenaro is

idle so temps reach 95 degs

start driving.. give it a 6 - 7 second squirt in any gear under load/boost

coolant temp drops to 69 -70

If driving from cold.. coolant wont rise above 60 as long as i dont idle for ages

im concerned though.. the colder the engine runs...the more fuel its going to squeeze from me?? doesnt the CTS have a part in the fuelling?

also, will this be affecting my oil temps? pressure always remains good btw.. still on shitty non synth (till i hit the magic 1000... 100 away!! )

ooh, thought it was just me... read my latest post Doug... I was always a bit alarmed at constantly seeing the temp needle off the scale.. at the BOTTOM!

do you think its affecting out mpg (not that there really is any!) or oil temps?

that is quite low... doug, do you have a secs?? do you know what temp secs reads when fans cut in?

Mine used to be a perfect 92/93 degrees, then one night (it was cold) coolants would not rise above 74ish... then fans came in was still reading below 80.. Knew sunmmat was wrong, so I changed the EGT sensor... and NOW it must be reading acuratly.. fans kick in circa 95-98 on SECS

and cruising in these ambients sees circa 80

Dave I will do a 80MPH 5th gear steady run tonight on way and see what they read... but Fairly certain it will be above 77-79

Though obviously you do have a greater cooling area..

you defo sure had a new ECT sensor??

Mine didnt no real need TBH

Got a new one from PJ motorsport was about 20 quid

from ford they are circa 40+

Would defo change it If I was you... mine you my dash needle still read properly, so it yours is reading below cold... cant just be the ECT sensor??

yeah, needle doesnt register..

but when secs temps hit 90ish, its just reaching halfway

95.. needle is teetering over the halfway mark

98-99 up near the red

so std gauge deffo works and secs seems in line with it

I thought that my water pump wasnt man enough to transport the coolant from the matrix at the back.. to my laminova at the front and back round to the head.. hence low temps

im honestly not that at ease with them being so cold.... they literally instantly drop when I boot it. Ive not water leaks either.. water system is as tight as a nut

My dash guage never really goes above hlfway (though could prob do with a new sensor maybe) and secs never gone above 98-99

Something not quite right there with yours I imagine??

Chat about it later..

As a point to note, if the pump wasnt man enough, it would be HOTTER at the head than you would like, as it wouldnt be getting cooled quick enough..

Surely that means its not mapped right?

Id want my car to be mapped to be safe at top speed from the start
Mike got this slightly wrong, I did not remove any Ignition from the dyno map,
The Ecu did due to high inlet temp as it is programed to but I programed it so tech he could be right

so the hotter the car runs the more ignition it adds? I thought it backed it off if coolant ran to a certain temp

Dave - I had the issue you decribe concerning the water tempurature. When driving along it would stay between 58-65 and got colder when you booted it on a dual carriageway/open road..... Even if you tried to put the heaters on hot it would be freezing and take bloody ages to demist the windows! It would get hot if you were to just let the car stand and idle on it's own but would take a while before the fans kicked in...

I like Damo though it was sensor related but it ended up being the thermostat stuck open. Got a new one and installed and the temps were around 78/80 while driving and the heaters were nice n warm!

Worth a try i say...............Neary fell over when i found out the cost for one though!

Reading on this Topic that people are moaning over Ł350 det check before a Topspeed run. If you want your engine to last get it done.
Mine has done 19 Topspeed runs to date & its Det checked before & then during the run. Mark has come off the gas a couple of times cos he heard a minute crack of Det. Without this checking nothing would appear to be wrong until you drop a piston.
20 secs Flat out in 5th aint possible on the road its an extreme test.

Asked about this cars Topspeed i will be as honest as i can & its not a diss.
Correctly geared 450bhp will see around 174 with the wing off. However this car is lacking Torque to acclerate the car up to those Speeds & i suggest it will still be acclerating at the brake point @ around 170 tops.
I wont be wrong have done it too many times.

Rod from what i gather unless you have got drilled sensors in the block its almost impossible to hear det anyway....mark must have better hearing than most race engine developers.

If its mapped propered it don't need the pre det checks surely...

And no i have not made up with up you at all, no idea why you spout such nonsense.
