Well EVERY tuner worth his salt (Mark Shead / Ahmed etc) det checks the engine at full load on both the engine dyno and in the car.

The dyno allows the full load points to be mapped ACCURATELY and the road allows the car to be checked in the confined environment of in the car.

You could "simulate" the road conditions on the dyno, but what would be the point, as you would STILL have to check the accuracy of these in the car, just to be sure.

I can't believe that people would be worried about a £350 bill for the sake of saving a £10k engine - talk about false economy.

Why do you think my car / MAD cars are so reliable? It's because they have been mapped to the most extreme conditions, so you know that you can cane bollocks off the car with impunity.

You lot are crazy if you don't do this with your cars...

Doug,
The WRC wing has more downforce, but LESS drag, hence why they switched to this in the first place .

I concur regarding the front end though .

exactly my point was,and i think Steve's too, is surely any car that has been mapped should be safe to use in any way.

Jesus, its hard enough to pin him down for a date to meet him at Grove, let alone 150 mile away on an empty airfield

Dave,
Brunters costs £60 an hour, which this would cover as well, you tight fuck . Also, P8 can't be live mapped as Damo will explain, so each change has to be loaded into a chip and checked until it is perfect.

On the dyno, the load is held only just long enough to capture the BRAKE horse power (as the engine is usually fresh from a rebuild).

Once in the car, the time at WOT is considerably longer, and the thermal build-up at full load is IMMENSE, so it MUST be checked. Sometimes, you will find very little needs changing, but if you have a wanky intercooler / cooling etc, then you may find ignition needs to be removed and/or fuel added.

My car has done in excess of 30,000 miles and is STILL as sweet as a nut. This wasn't by accident or bufty driving - everyone knows the car is given DEATH and just turns up and does the business where-ever it goes...

Its tight not having real world det check after spending £700 on a dyno session.

so mike if i bought a turbo from harvey, i would have to have the engine dyno'd and then det checked at brunters.

hmmmm

its sounds more and more appealing

so you pay 1k+ for the dyno then have to pay £350 for him to double check it

when harvey gibbs built my mates 400+ engine, this was mapped by Ahmed on the dyno..

years later and I do believe its still running well

i assume this brunters thing is just a check of a check.. double safe

'Tis, but when you consider, the majority of peeps who have an engine built for thier road cossie do so due to a melted piston.... It cbecomes more of a necessity

Dave, I expect you could possibly have it done at Grove, but if you want top speed checked etc., then Brunters is the only safe way.

For top end (150mph+) mapping a real world det check run is essential *IF* you plan to sustain that kind of speed (on the autobahn etc erhem).
In the grand scheme its not a lot to pay for knowing its not going to melt at high speed. If you plan to not use all the performance then its not an issue.

Harvey told my mate not too hold it for long periods flat out anyway, as it was on light blues.. not greys..

Damo,
The exhaust is because I'm fed up with having to run just 1 bar of boost at Bedford (well spotted regarding photo ).

The intercooler is a special 65mm thick item that is the maximum width possible (they had my car for a week as a template). Not only has it the ducting, but the radiator is sealed to the intercooler (sames as yours ), in an attempt to resolve my cooling issues .

And I think you mean T-sex .

Doing it as a pair of cars is probably the best and I would email him... .

Bill,
Ahmed, should have a suitable map that can be adjusted for my car and/or can extrapolate the settings from my P8. The idea was then to drive to Brunters with Ahmed in the car with the wide-band connected to the T6, so that it could self map for the run there and then do the final tweeking at Brunters .

Sorry Ryan, I fail to see what's so amusing?

Instead of making half hearted digs, why don't you, with your vast history of dyno tuned engines, come out and explain EXACTLY what your grievances seem to be, and how you think it could be done better.....?
