Default what first got you into cars, fords???

i remember when i was about 13ish i saw a bright red 90spec rst and it was absolutely stunning, and i also remeber sitting in school dreaming about owning an escort cabriolet, thought they were so cool. ive owned 4 now lol, used to help my dad working on cars, nothing ever that special, but we had a mk2 xr2 for a while and i loved it.
when i was 15-16ish i became more interested in motorbikes and was spending my free time out on my motocrossers, and was more interested in going for my bike license but two of my mates who are brothers had two very nice fords at the time and i suppose are responsible for my love of the blue oval. one had a red mk3 xr3i with a s1 kit, tinted windows and tsw stealths and the other had a mk2 orion ghia which he spent loads on, had it rover amaranth purple, tsw blades, illusion bumpers, rs kit, turbo engine, low as hell.
i ended up owning both of these cars, i know the mods sound tacky now but this was about 7 years ago.
ever since then i swear by fords, i love them and ive owned nearly every sporty model apart from cosworths cos i cant afford them, yet

Never liked cars at all, was only ever into motorbikes, then i started going around a lot with a mate of mine in his mini and decided that cars could be fun too.

Never been into fords especially, just always like Series 1 and Cossies.

Then got a ride in Mike R's saff back in 1999, and the rest is history.

my parents used to have a mk2 xr2 and i loved the sound it made, and the styling. After that they reverted to vw Gtis. They were great cars but to me didnt have the character of the xr2. I have just got an S2 as i am just able to afford insurance now.

first ford was a mk4 escort, 1.3 bonus

got me hooked on em since, now i have all the xr's bar the sierras, have a s2 and a xr2 atm, and getting a saph next...

a 3-door cossie has always been my realistic aim in the car world, escos dont really have the same appeal to me...

after the 3-door itll be onto the skylines i reckon...

Never really liked Fords either really but i'll always make time for a 3dr/500 or a Mk2 escort

I cant decide on that either, keep preferring escos's one week and then back to 3 doors the week after.

Luckily, cause i painted my 3 door yellow, i dont have the option to sell it for sensible money to get an escos anyway, so its an easy choice to stick with it

always into cars - not really fords. then my mate bought a S2. one quick lap round the fen and that was it - in love with turbo'd cars forever!

and never liked 3dr's at all until i started going to the derby meets! have them to blame when the day comes of buying one and putting myself in debt for as long as i own it!!

Thanks

The feature certainly is stunning.

In real life the car is far more average, its just that Mike is a legend behind the lens!

Its a nice car, but its not as good as it looks in print im afraid, when i pick up the magazine i think "wish i had one like that"

I thought the same, i could never afrod one, but sometimes you get lucky

I have always been into cars, i started drving when i was six !!

My father was a fleet manager, so i used to go to work with
him in my summer hols, and help in the workshops with the
mechanics, then once i could drive, i used to "test" every car
he was given to see if they would be any good as a fleet car....

I have always wanted a cossie from the age on 9, I was out
with my dad and my Bro and a Black 3dr Cossie over took us !!,
That was it, i HAD TO HAVE ONE !!!! ....

But went thru the usual XR3i's,XR2's,RST, then bought the Sapph Six
years agao, and now the Escos....

my s2 looks spangley in pics, but in real life you see the imperfections....

i mean look how a nicely set up photoshoot can make the bad points invisible, re: galbally's in the grudge match.

as AJ said, they are unreliable rot-boxes, but thers something about an 80's ford that melts the heart so to speak

my dad and uncle have always been into cars, when my mum and dad were going out he had a mini with a really loud exhaust and she could here him a mile off so she new when to walk out the front door, my mum and g/f joke about history repeating its self as my misses can hear me at the bottom of her road. our family has always owned fords untill recently, my uncle used to quite a succesfully banker in the late 80s early 90s and had a 3.0ltr Capri, a s2 and a frst all brand new and in gleaming red. what really got me hooked was when the escoz was first launched and we were picking my mums fiesta up from our local ford dealership after a service and they had one in the showroom and the dealer let me sit init.

my dad has 6 bmw's (only 1 works...... )

only ford he ownes is a transit...

mind you, i am very partial to alot of BMW's, the 2002 (there is a 1502 opposite me), and i love the late 80's m3...

cant beat the 80's in tearms of the caracter that cars have... IMO the 90's was disasterous for fast ''working mans'' cars thanks to insurance premiums being ridiculous. i must admit, the new astra vxr, golf GTi, esp the focus st are nice... i do like the mody st220, but i doubt id buy one...

there is loads of cars i like, but when it comes to parting with my hard earned, itll most of the time be on a ford

Good topic jonny

I don't think i ever "got" into cars - i think i was born into cars. since i was old enough to be out in a pram i was apparently pointing them out, no surprise that my first word was car then.

I think I must have got interested in fords when i was 4 or 5 - my dad had had 3 Escorts (a 1.3 L carb Mk3, 1.6i Mk3 Ghia (loved that car) Mk5 1.4 L ) by the time i was that age, along with my uncle who'd had an XR3, two xr3i's and various rs mexicos and rs2000's which i never even saw. I was always out wathcing my dad work on the cars whenever they needed fixed. What really got me into Fords was the Escort Cosworth - i remember my dad used to get sent officail "Ford Magazines" quarterly, and one of the issues in 1992 covered the car and had a poster with it - that was on my wall for years.

Up until 2000 Fords were my passion but i had nothing to go on, no decent net access back then and no magazines that i could find - until i found a few local petrol stations selling fastford and more reciently performance ford.
