Default PC Help! My home PC is fecked! FIREFOX PROBS TOO!

Its got some kind of computer based AIDS/Syphallis type thing and is fucked.
The virus scanner found and killed a few things, and the PC runs fine apart from the internet...

It wont connect to it, internet explorer says theres an error and shuts down.

Thing is tho, every time try to use internet explorer for first time after starting the comp, a "start screen" virus appears (from where?) and the virus killer gets it, but next time its there again

Bearshare didnt work at first either (said couldnt find a Windll32 file, so i found it and put it where it was looking for it, and sorted now) but is fine now and connects.

But Kazaa (tho i never use it) dont work.

And most importantly, internet explorer dont either

How hell can get internet to work again n where this start screen virus appear from constantly seeing as virus killer keeps getting it?

dont use IE - use Mozilla Firefox.

but you will have to clear the virus first or failing that format the c:/ and reinstall windows

What AV package are you using?

Get yourself a decent AV software package Kapsersky Pro, Sygate or TrendMicro, a couple of good Spyware + trojanb finders like The cleaner and Noadware as well as a system cleaner like advanced system optimizer then go through everything. If you can't get or don't have a decent AV scanner then do an online scan.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...e+Search&meta=

www.isohunt.com

Clean all viruses, worms trojans off. Get rid of the spyware and tracking cookies and clean up all your clogged files, dead directories and wasted registery entries.

Then Leave IE alone after you have downloaded Firefox.

http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Also you should have a decent Software firewall on top of this if your don't have a hardware one on your router. Again you can do an online penetration test on various ports, various tests at sygate on the link below:

I would run Ad-Aware and SpyBot for good measure too.

Flatten it mate, total wipe required, it sounds too far gone.

Make sure you have your porn (I mean data) backed up and then run your recovery (or xp cd)

Good luck!

Right,

Re-formatting the hard drive is, as always, the last resort.

What you can do however, is download AVG anti virus from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5

Scroll to the bottom and it says download avg free. Download the setup file and install it, whilst going through the install, update it (if you have broadband) and then run a full system scan. This should remove whatever virus you have. If not, if you get access denied, etc, run it in safe mode.

Once removed, run the scan 2 or 3 times to be sure, then, run ad-aware, or spybot serch and destroy a couple of times to remove any spyware.

If that does not fix it, then, wipe it clean and start again.

Oh,

And if you're using p2p software (bareshare, kazaa, limewire) I'd suggest at least 2 anti virus programs and 1 or 2 good firewalls.

No point downloading anything if you can't look after it.

My pc has always been clean as a whistle apart from once when i accepted something I shouldnt have. I use a fully licensed sophos antivirus with live updates, use adaware and microsoft anti-spyware and thought i'd give firefox a go last weekend.........fucked my pc right up, two viruses and full of spyware with a hijacked homepage within half an hour and not a porn site browsed before you ask .

If you're gonna use firefox make sure you spend time setting it up properly and even then I didnt like it

it was no faster for me on any of the forums/sites I use and i'm on a 512mb connection

I's stick to IE unless you are having real problems with speed. Also Firefox has problems with anything that needs an active x control

for your troijan have a look in the system 32 folder, sort files by date modified......the one I had was easy to spot in there, open up in safe mode and delete the fooker, scan with your anti spyware anti virus and use a registry rebuilder. Job done

Unless i missed something, this is where you get firefox from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

And it's sweet as a nut for me, themes, plugins all work fine. Active-x controls all work fine.

Latest version of avg is 7.1.371

Also, run another anti virus application, just to be sure

Safe mode doesn't lod any drivers, and allows access to files not currently being used by windows. If AVG's found nothing, then there is a chance it's just spyware, running another anti virus program will confirm this.

Spyware usually is responsible for changing homwpages and stuff. Virus just corrupt files, and abuse your e-mail and stuff.
