I bought an Acer laptop about a year ago. Also have two Acer tft screens and an Acer pda.

I have found their products great and the laptop is still going strong with no problems. The quality is really good for the price.

If I had to send anything back my buttocks would clench together because I have heard bad things. But look hard enough and you'll find people winging about anything on the net.

Haven't got one myself...tried to get one but they're out of stock of the model I wanted...shame they don't bloddy well tell you it's out of stock on the site before you think you've 'bought' it!!!

I'd advise anyone personally to get a Centrino (Intel) or Turion (AMD) processor laptop over any other processor for a lappie as they're specced to use less power without having to hook up to mains...i.e for wireless networking etc in garden or wherever. If it doesn't bother you then don't worry An example is the battery life.....that spec says it'll be 1.5 hrs before it's dead....a Centrino one will last about 3.5. I have a Centrino Toshiba (Tecra M1) and that lasts about 3 hours in reality.

PS I noticed on the site that you can upgrade the memory (Acer site not Comet) so it has free banks that you can fill (up to 2Mb) if you fancy going to Crucial and spending in the future

Acer machines are generally good, never had any problems with anything I've bought for myself or customers.

Reasonably priced too!

imho don't buy from Comet you'll get walked all over price wise. try http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk they have the same if not better Acer models among others, at better prices

i was looking on acernotebooks too

i noticed tho comet has a aspire 1691 laptop for 589 but acernotebooks doesnt list that model but does list a aspire 1690 for 650 quid !!!

what am i missing there is the 1691 an outgoing model ? also the comet one (1691 ) says it has 128 bit graphics whereas the notbook one says it has an ati x600 pci express card in it

i thought they would be the sameish spec ???

come on guys either one of the two above please ????

also i presume these laptops wouldnt be any good at all playing the more modern games ?

useing a acer right now modle travel mate 2201lc bought from comet a year a go. dident buy the extended warranty as the acer lap mtop i had befor this one lasted over six years. mine cost Ł499

should be able to play black hawk down then i hope

i got one, had it 3yrs, ive added wireless to it and bluetooth works fine, recently gave it a "tune up" reinstalled xp and service pack2 things running better than ever!

I had an Acer laptop a few years back from work, it was chunky but never broke from anything other than coffee

They gave me some compaq thing with a flashy swivelly screen after that and it was bob

Now I left that place, I just take my speak and spell out with me and use that to look like a professional
