wonder how long befor we see something older with one of these engines
when i asked my tuner about thier potential he smiled widely and said at last a decent engine with lots of potential will be refreshing
anybody know of any tuned volvos with these engines? running big power or rumoured figures?
cheers

You can buy a old T5 for under a grand which i think you will find pushes out 20bhp extra than the new ST!

er.....its a volvo engine! no way is it anything like a bloody vw engine!fool!
and there are plenty of big power t5s out there! 400bhp is relatively easy to achieve and i have seen 600bhp in scandinavia (doubtless there are cars with more!)

Over 400bhp easily - although really the question is pointless because it'll jsut overwhelm the FWD and make it useless. If someone comes up with a 4WD conversion then hey - it'll be incredible but otherwise over 250bhp will be pointless unless you got the ST '2' or '3' with the full traction control and ESP.

Plenty of FWDs in the UK with well over 400bhp. Its mainly pointless, but depends how you see it.
Even if you was only at the 250-300bhp level, with 2.5litres you can make that engine have such a fantastic powerband, so theres advanages no matter what.

you guys go on about it being fwd so it wont grip etc
im thinking more about 3rd gear
yes you wont get tons of acceleration due to traction, but on a dry day and 3rd gear with that much power and torque (provided you know how to use it and have 400+bhp) id imagine it would pretty much descimate most cossies in 3rd and 4th and leave them for dust

The review in Evo seemed to make out that the nice handling of the stock Focus had been partially lost if you push it very hard due to the extra weight of the 5cyl engine. Bet it sounds sweet though!

guy at ford told me that they put some kind of ducting device near the inlet to amplify the sound towards the cockpit because the engine was too quiet. so to give it the sports sound when you floor it they did this?!
I make vrooom noises to myself when im on a long boring journey maybe its just like that

The gearbox can't even take standard power by the looks of it. My mate works at the main dealership in leicester, and their first St focus went out the showroom when they where released a couple of days ago... i think. IT got halfway down the road and blew third gear. Gotta wait 28 days for a new one to come from Germany lmao..... "It's only a ford!"

I'm not kidding you, i'll try my best to get pics but they aren't even bothering to split the gearbox. Their just bangin a new on on, once it arrives from the main Headquarters in Germany. My friend is an auto electrician there.

have to agree with the rudester, i doubt the box is that weak. could well be a one off problem. Hope so!!
I think these engines will be pushing real big power soon, these swedes will have been bolting on oversized turbos for years now doubt
Be one in a sierra before long, no worries.

They are quoting 340hp/460 n.m for a remap on the s60r. same engine, not sure of ecu. Doubt it will be a million miles away

Mazda have a turbo version of the 2.3 duratec in the mazda speed 6. Has 274bhp and 280lbs. Personally I think the 2.3 duratec would have been the better option for the ST as it is lighter, but ford don't seem to want to pick the best options when it comes to its sporting models at the moment
.
Still seeing as the ST is just the engine and gearbox from a volvo s40 T5 then it should be a case of getting the PTU and haldex back end from a AWD drive version of the s40 to make a awd version of the ST, this is pretty much all the now scrapped rs version was going to be.

was the one that left the dealership registered or not, as if its not then its not covered by waranty ( hence why we was only allowed to take ours out today incase it died
)
the 6 speed box in it is fine and i never killed the gearbox and i have killed a gearbox in EVERY car i have ever owned INCLUDING a 1300 escort
i do a gearbox a year in a car that that includes the mega strong t5 cossie one, mines FOOKED
must either be a design error or rumors from people who cant afford to buy em
