cheack out this rare s1

Wouldn't mind going to see it as I always wanted to buy it, even at 14 thinking it was special due to its colour & the write up in the programme stating it was one of 5 built.
Can't believe it has got that rough though

Mint it would be worth at least £6k, true that he knew how rare it was, I saw it at Wheels day in 1993 down Plymouth way & it was written in the programme how rare it was, trouble is I can't find the programme now!

Its a shame any of them are allowed to get in this state, let alone the rare as rocking horse shit versions...
I remember Princess Di's car, it sort of kickstarted my affair with RS Turbos
If I remember rightly when she had it it came with the 5 slat grille rather than the 3 slat S1 grille? (although it has been changed now to the proper 3 slat version)
I wonder how much the S1 from Cats Eyes would be worth now if it was still alive...
Anyone got any pics of Princess Di's Series 1?

2 mins walking round it would tell u if its the real thing.if it is then the buyers got as very rare car.i would say he would be looking at closer to 5-6k in doing it to a good standard which it should be if it is a genuine car, looks in a very poor state good luck to who ever buys it

Princess Di's did have the 5 slat grille so it wouldn't stand out from any other car
This was changed when Ford took it back.
Looking at the back of a book today about Escorts in competition it showed that the Datapost car also ran with a 5 slat grille
Thought the Catseyes one was still around?

some of the datapost cars where 16i's which would explain the grill..
Dont forget the grey one...
As for the story behind that everyone should know it as it was a regular at shows for a while...

he was going to restore it, its a 20 year old car for christ sake.
would it be worth more in mint condition or scabby old 20year old condition?
He has just run out of funds/interest

some people are just too stoned to understand that most of these cars need restoring and that's not cheap,so not everyone can do the work so paying a garage over £50 an hour is out of the question .

At the end of the day the higher the bid the more serious the buyer is,and that would more than likely mean another rare S1 would be saved and restored to a high standard...which can only be a good thing!

I know someone who works for fords, who gets me spare parts and stuff (he works in the technical department dealing with ECU's).
He confirmed to me that there was only 1 GENUINE S1 ever made by ford in black and that was for Diana. i asked him some time ago (about 6 years ago i think when Fast Ford featured the ONLY Black S1 ever made).
Any other black, red, blue, yellow whatever are fake/non original, confirmed.

Im not being rude but how does it prove there was only 1 genuine non white s1 because your m8 works at Fords????I read once Jeremy Walton who is one of the most clued up Ford journalist there is and worked closely with Ford in them days, saying even he doesn't know how many non white S1's from the factory there are!!...infact Ford still maintain all were white!!We know this not to be true, but what is the basis of a non white S1 being an original?A few were painted by Fords as new but retained the white id plate...so are these not genuine?...I know black one of Di's had the correct ID and i was led to believe some of the red ones had athe correct ID. Im sure even dianas S1 was a white one to start with and then it was striped painted and a new ID tag with swartz was fitted to the front. At the end of the day due to Fords terrible record keeping we we never really know how many were genuine Non white cars were built,i belive this black one on Ebay was black from new and has a rare Dagenham id plate on it....so id say this was original enough and worth saving. This debate about how many non white genune S1's will go on forever!!

i dont care how much of an ethusiast u r! paying more than 2 grand for that is a joke! it is a peice of shit. Get a white one for like 1,500 then spray it black cause thats as near to an original black most people will ever get. Better than restoring that shitbox i mean look at it people. i am really trying to see the benefits here believe me i am. But well i can't cause its a heap of shit. That is only my point of view but the more of these that are restored the better as they are getting rare but i would not touch that.

When that car was on the show scene 11 years ago it was mint, unfortunately by the looks of it, it was garaged & other things took over & now it's in that state.
Princess Di's (Now owned by Jeff Windsor) was sprayed black directly onto the primer, hence being quoted as being the only factory black S1.
The special order cars were ALL sprayed white & then stripped by Ford & resprayed in the desired colour on top of the white (They did exactly the same thing with the mk2 RS2000) (Can a mod make that quote a sticky at the top of the page cos this has to be the most asked question on Series 1s! )
I certainly wouldn't scrap it, it's too rare to scrap (One of only 5 black ones produced by Ford) & needs to go to a proper enthusiast who has the time & money to restore it back to its former glory.
I always said that I wanted this car, but unfortunately it's too expensive & too far gone for me to undertake.
