Lee - Melbourne is awesome mate. I planned to stop here for 2 days on my way from west to east as it is not marketed in the UK. I ended up spending 8 weeks in Melbourne and now live here.

Have a look:

http://www.visitmelbourne.com/

It is voted second most liveable city in the world behind Vancouver I think or maybe Torronto. Very clean, loads of places to eat and drink. Lots of different cultures for food etc so enormous variety. Excellent beaches. Very similar climate to Sydney and the snow is about a 3 hour drive in the winter if you feel inclined. Massive wine state as well

Melbourne also has the majority of the sporting events. Grand Prix, Australian Open Tennis, Golf etc. Also Commonwealth Games in March next year.

Pops will have to "pop" up to Sydney to see you when you are here.

agent was a grand, which you pay in stages. 500 to do trade papers, then 350 for main app's then 150 once it has been formally acessed by the case officer in oz
cant remember exact prices for the case's workers, but i think they were roughly
350 to acesss trade papers
850 to acess main app's
20 quid for police reports
and just about to pay another grand out for our medicals next week

so just over 3k all in
