Default comparing the new engine to the gumball one

have been comparing the new engine to the one we used on the gumball, now as i'm sure porkie will testify the gumball engine was a monster which loved to rev and had no problems keeping up with the enzo but the new engine is mucho better. Looking at some figures it mostly makes the old engines power at 1000rpm less and using 4psi less boost. here's some examples of how much more torque and hp extra it makes at how much less boost...

rpm........how much more: torque.....hp...... how much less: boost

4000................................. 17.........9 ............................9
4500................................. 57 ........44 .........................7
5000................................. 83.........78 .........................4
5500................................. 29.........30 .........................12
5500................................. 90.........93 ..........................4
6000................................. 39.........62 ..........................8
6000................................. 91.........103 ........................4
7000................................. 52.........66 .........................4

should make for an interesting drive

Quality comparison there I love seeing figures like that put up, especially as we've all got some idea of how fast the car used to be - its just gonna be plain crazy now

Cant wait to see the engine finished, and the car used in anger

As Martin says he has different figures (hence same amounts of RPM) because of different boost levels tested, but you can tie these up via the last column

Hope everyone can understand it now

Cheers,

James

Wow, thats certainly an enormous improvement.

Can you disclose how many degrees from Det you were mapped to on the new engine, ie is it fully tuned yet at the revs you have taken it to, or is there even more to come?

I assume this was on pump fuel? as im guessing that you must have run pump fuel on the gumball cause its not exactly easy finding 108 on the way through europe!

Going to be a total animal by anyones standards

Wow Does it beat the engine you had in before with the Millington block and head that did the 194mph?

I've been thinking, that might actually hurt driving it with the amount of G-Force it's going to throw at you while pinning you back in the drivers seat!!!

Can't wait to find out what it makes on it's final dyno session!

Amasing feat of engineering to be honest, very well done Just goes to prove your as much an engineer as a tuner by the fact you have taken the time to take it apart again and check everything Your effectively developing another type of Cosworth engine

mondeo seems like a good option for top speed runs

Does it "count" if its in a non cosworth car though, or is it ok providing its a ford, i dont know what the unoffical rules are of this whole "brunters thing" in the first place??

Ie if he went and put it in a calibra cause they have a good drag coefficient does that still count as beating Rod, or would it be seen as irrelevant in something like a mondeo or calibra or whatever?

we will have to see what people say about this because the mondeo is getting a spunky engine and will be recording a decent top speed as soon as its fixed. dont forget the mondo did 182mph at brunters with a slightly shonkey t34 400hp engine and when it had a 500 hp t4 engine it pulled 8000rpm in 5th on my own private test road... work that out!

Sounds interesting on the mondeo

I think personally that Rod is kind of within his rights to still claim "fastest cosworth" if he gets beaten by a mondeo (or my car ) as its not actually a cossie, but obviously he cant claim that if you beat him in the escort!

Personally i think beating rods time is going to be a lot harder than people give it credit for though!

You need to be hitting 200mph in under a mile i reckon to really be in with a chance of cracking properly into the 210+ range

Whatever happens, its going to be great fun to follow the progress on here, especially if Rod can do anything to rise the bar up a little further first to really make you work for it

Best of luck to both of you

Chip, I agree on all counts. Mondeo not really a Cossie and Rods is going to be VERY hard to beat topend!

But then thats NOT the point of Martins car at all if you ask me.

Multi purpose monster! Can't see many things matching it lap after lap on a circuit (if he lets me drive ) , 1/4 mile, Topend beastie and endurance 'event' funwagon!

Just been out in it and your not wrong.Pulled away abit sharpish and the coin tray finished on the passenger seat and the front flipped off the radio.Love the racket from that screamer pipe too once you get the revs on .Those Reyland horses sure are thoroughbreds.

there is little doubt in my mind that my escort will do the 200mph but to beat rod without the use of gas may be a tall order... we will see. i really want the new car to be like the old one on a greater scale i.e. a good all rounder so if it does a monster 0-60 and 1/4mile and goes on to exceed 200 and does well on the track then i will be a happy bunny. i get a bigger kick out of creating something new with loads of bits that are not available off the shelf.
a standing start at the bottom of brunters against rod is deffo on the cards!
