Quick Question - I think i know the answer
I have a friend who has a 1.8 escort si and it seems to cut out rather a lot. All she has done to it is have a induction kit fitted. I told her this could be whats causing it to stall, seems worse when wet and from cold but it can happen also when warm.
What else could it be? ICV? dirty MAF? (does it have one?)
Pretty stuck and so is the local garage.

When I had my 1.8Si Escort, Ford had just released a dealer directive regarding sticking valves on the eariler Zetec engines.
Mine would maybe start up, and then cut out 1 or 2 mins down the road, sometimes even earlier, or just cut out at traffic lights.
Ford's service department's recommendation was to use a product called Forte (can't remember exactly which one) to remove the carbo deposits from the valves etc. Both myself and my housemate had identical 1.8Si, and this cured the problem on both!
I had an induction kit on mine too, and this was not the cause of the problem.

my 1.8 si used to cut out when turning left and stopping, it was one of the terminals loose on the battery terminal, tightened it up and was spot on, but this was after i treble checked all the wiring (as i just fitted 2ltr) and pulled out the dash to check wiring good luck hope you get it sorted
ps the actual battery terminal was tight it was the one that screws to it

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
and stick to the right grade oil for your zetec engine.
too thick a oil will make the car stall too.
must be 0w30 or something, don't know by hearth anymore

What if I was to say that the revs are not steady at tick over?
Would that be full or part synthetic?
