Default Escos front shafts

Car has only been on the road for just over 4 days and ive already destroyed an outer front CV joint.

a mate has just broken an xr4x4 and ive heard in the past that the front driveshafts can be used from it on escort cossies, but at the sme time been told that they are longer than standard escort shafts.

Can these be fitted atall, does anything need to be changed to assist them? or best to just leave them alone!?

Kelvin,
Use standard Escort ones. It is usually the engine mounts that are buggered that cause problems.

Obviously if the car has done quite high miles, the CV joints will eventually fail, but fitting new standard ones will see the car do another x thousand miles before they need replacing (unless your engine mount is mullered and then you'll be lucky to last 100miles).

Any news on vents ?

shafts just dont break, you have obviously got a problem

Engine mounts broke or your car is too low,fit a set of adjustable TCAs the problem will be solved

has pretty much new engine mounts, solid vibra technics ones.

car is pretty low tho, drive shafts are at a bit of a steep angle!! but just had the adjustable lower arms fitted no more than a few days ago, so i guess i could have caused the problem with the joint before fitting the TCA's

i just put it down to a few scarry launches and getting used to the car ready for its track day.

Cheers Mike and Pete

Mike, should only be a few days, im back at work now

Ur right Kel....but so is Mike R....the shafts IIRC are the same length....its the snap ring groove thats different.....they are machined 8mm further out which in effect makes them for a wider track car i.e. XR4X4...

But like mike says i'd stick with genuine Esc Cos versions....it does tend to be engine mounts or knackered bushes that cause c.v./driveshaft failure....
