Just wondering what people make of the 4inch scorpion exhaust systems? over the 4inch mongoose systems?

I have noticed the scorpion, makes an almighty roar and deep groan and burblly kinda sound as it comes on to boost, where as the mongoose it just kinda a harsh loud groan all the way through?

However folks say the scorpion are shite, they sure don't sound it at all.

Whatcha reckon? Also if i was to keep my 4inch scorpion system, is there anyway of making it less restrictive as this is what i have been told by all rs turbo owners.

So as i understand scorpion restrictive not very good, mongoose fine but don't sound that great when they come on to boost?

any ideas, or peeps understand what i'm trying to say in writing? lol

afaik, magnex is good, but all this convo only comes into effect if u are running silly bhp

and the people who are running this power know what to use.

afaik, the OLD scorpion boxes WERE good ie NOT restricted, its just the newer ones.

hmmm, think mine is a new one, its only bout yesr old, has the engraving and pattern of the scorpion on the tailpipe if u look down at it from back of car.

Can i de-restrict it or anything along those lines?

Stu.H, it's the old ones that ARE restrictive despite the few that will disagree (you know who you are ) the new ones AFAIK are fine!


As you can SEE the pipe in the backbox goes from 2.5" (Standard) to 2" then to 3-3.5-4" whatever tailpipe you have.

ahh, ok so if i measure that cylinderical tube that runs into the backbox, if its 2.5inch's then its ok?

if its shorter then its shite, correctomundo?

oui, correctomundo it's the actual pipe that runs through the length of the backbox, all other pipes on scorpipn apart from the tailpipe are 2.5"

I know the diff between the restrictive scorpion and the goose, but aint heard the new scorpion. (the ones that apparently do not have the smaller pipe in the backbox)

you can hear the restrictive scorpion on the car when it comes on boost, it's quit noticeable if you know what to listen for. It basically sounds like air being forced through a hole smaller than it can get through fast enough, kinda sounds like a jet? but obviously nowhere near as loud lol

now how funny is that. When on boost it does sound like a raspy continuos, parrrrrrrrrrrrr, rather than the mongooses growl an roar

Sounds like my old sorpion Lovely Note on that but then again it had the Baffles removed

get the 3" bore 'goose!

mine on my 2.0ZVH sounded awsome imo. nice and loud on boost and quiet enough off it. best of both worlds

all scorpions make that sound.. iv had some on uno turbos my brother had them on his cossy and they make a loud throaty noise and burble and scream at u when on boost.. but nice when driving it normally... which in most our cases is probaly pretty rare..

so how do i find if my scorpion (i think it is) is restrictive?

do i look down the tailpipe? of from the other end of the back box?

will have the exhaust off the car on sat so would like to know

i think my old magnex sounded the best. was a really old one, (no markins on it) sounded really 'gurgly'

not needed until high bhp figures,does more bad than good on mildly tuned rst's,think christian found this out,but when he wanted more bhp the exhaust became restrictive so needed 3" bore

If you are bothered about the mongoose being to loud id stick with the standard system

IMO the scorpion sounds shit compared to the mongoose ones

My mates scorpion on his saph is just as bad, u can clearly see thats it has 3'' pipework and a 2'' bore through the backbox

Mongoose are my only choice
