What car?
Looking for a new car as im 17, but have discovered a incredble insurance company and can insure most thing, Even a FRS!
I will be buying a salvage car, for around 3K so market value upto about 7.5k.
Want somethink as quick as possible that looks good.
Options so far,
ST170 (nice one went but i was too slow)
Golf Gti TDI (amazing fuel economy, but its a VW and apparantly dont corner)
BMW 3 series
Would like Rwd but not required, as you can tell from above choices.
So far ST170 is looking favourite.

Bet no insurance company will touch you on a salvage motor...........I suggest you look very closely at that before buying one of those mate. They're really funny about insuring stolen / recovereds or total losses these days, especially seeing as you're only 17.
As for the cars you want to insure - those at your age ? Im 33, full protected NCB and an ST quote for me was Ł600................

Check the small print and read through the terms and conditions. As the old saying goes If it looks to good to be true it usually is.
My bro paid Ł1200 TP on his first car which was a 1.2 Nova valued at Ł7.50
Until you get NCB under your belt you are well screwed I'm afraid

Admiral, from what i can see its a over a grand what ever car it is, how fast doesnt make THAT much difference, this is under my dads insurance, with no NCB

Ahhh, so if it's under your dads insurance you won't be building any no claims.
Trust me (and others) when we say it's better to start off with a smaller engined car, cheaper to insure on your own then in a couple of years you'll be able to afford better cars with your no claims!

Plus it's illegal and the insurers WILL find out if you ever need to claim....
I totally understand the frustration with having to buy a slow motor but at 17 it's dangerous to buy anything else anyway.
Hope that helps.

It is amazing considering i have all ready stuffed my car into a range rover and lost the NCB, i was under my dads insurance then and they DID NOT find out our insurance rep lives down the road and knows its my car!
Before the comments come, ie you have already crashed you dont need a faster car, i dont really want them (and i know i can say this a million times but i was only 3 weeks passed and learnt a lot)

PS i live on a farm, And also can be insured under the farms policy, as my dad has been for 40 years is this illegal? And why is me being insured under my dads name illegal?
#25
It's not the Rep you should really be worried about, he's got his commission! It's the insurance assessors etc.
I know you've said you've already learnt a lot but everyone @ your age thinks the same, I did! I can now look back 8 years later and say that I knew sweet FA @ 17 and that there's still a lot to learn!
You've not even driven through a winter yet, I know my first winter driving was interesting!
I started with a 950 Fiesta popular on my own insurance while my mate started with a new Fiesta SI on his dads insurance. Within 3 years I had a 240BHP Rover Coupe Turbo & my mate had moved from home and insured his own car, a 1.1 205 as it was all he could afford to insure Mine and his insurance payments weren't too different either!
It is worth the wait honest!

Don't run before you can walk young man............17 and already stacking a car isn't clever. Now want something more powerful ? Learn to drive properly before you start getting fast cars. You may THINK you can drive but at 17 - trust me, you can't. Not a 'I'm telling you so' lecture but I don't want to read your obituary here 'cos you think you're Carlos Sainz................

Technically it's illegal - insurance companies share information and it's obvious what's being done if the person who holds the policy owns more then one car. The idea of a named driver is to cover a driver who would not "normally" or "regularly" use the car. So they do find out, and insurance companies are very clever at wriggling their way out of paying out, I'm sure anyone else here will echo that too!
It's expensive, but the best thing was mentioned before, insure yourself on a cheap car and build up NCB - it's expensive now but cheaper in the long run. I bought a mk5 xr3i 2 years ago when I was 18, my first policy in my name, I paid Ł1800 tpft without any mods for my 1st years cover, I'm now 20 and I pay Ł900 fully comp like 4 like on a 2 litre mondeo with all mods declared

ANyone got a answer to why im breaking the law?
Spose its too late now guys if it makes you all feel like you have done your bit comment away, i mearly asked for some advice between 3 cars, i know next time i will ask it differently.

I already told you - it's illegal because you're going to be the regular driver of the car, therefore it needs to be you who's insured not your dad. Basically if you do it under your dads name, you've lied to the insurance company about who is the regular driver, and technically it's defrauding them in a manner as well. My mates dad was an insurance broker, and he explained all this to me when I was 17 and started driving

From the RAC website!
http://www.rac.co.uk/web/insurance/c..._questions#170
My child has just started driving and I want to get insurance for them. What is the best way to insure them?
It is always best to insure young drivers on their own policies. This way they will collect their own no-claim bonus which will help lower their insurance premiums. RAC Direct Insurance offers a great young driver policy. Please call 0800 404 7647 to find out more. Often parents insure their children as secondary drivers on a policy with themselves as a main driver when actually the child is the main driver of the car. Parents often think this is the cheapest way to get their children on the road, however, often this isn't the cheapest way and if we find out that the young driver is the true main driver we may not pay out on a claim. This is because the information you have provided is incorrect and the insurance becomes invalid.

im in same sort of position as you, when i come to driving the farm pick-up my dad will just go back to insururing it as any driver??
if i want my own car he says pay for it yourself, and it will come under the whole farm's insurance so it will be less or whatever.
Is it NFU Mutual ?
