Spend a little extra and buy an LCD you know it makes sense!
And you do not need anything too big unless you live in Buckingham Palace

Well i have had fun

Been looking at LOADS of TV's today and still undecided in the Plasma/LCD TV debate.

TBH i dont see THAT much of a difference in the LCD to the Plasma screens

I think i will go for a 42" Plasma which is HD ready

Best of both worlds, Size and quality

its simple ....

First rear projection = utter sh!t
New DLP = ok, if ya like that sort of thing
Normal CRT = slightly better picture than Plasma if it's a good spec TV
Plasma = can suffer from screen burn, good picture, huge size for the money.
LCD = i'd say better than plasma, more expensive, some have higher pixel rating but sometimes get a "halo" effect on sport channels like football due to the responce times. (even though i havent really noticed this on my smaller Philips 23" LCD.)

saying that i'll be getting a 37"+ LCD in the next year, it has to be a Philips with Ambilight and Cienos Screen as said above the 37PF9830. I'm just waiting on a 42" version to come out.
what ever make sure its HD ready

I had a look around yesterday and although I was always of the opinion that plasmas were crap and blurry, in Comet they had a 42" plasma and a 32" LCD next to each other, both HDTV models broadcasting a HDTV demo DVD, and the plasma looked sharper than the LCD

It certainly changed my opinions on them!

Wait until you get the plasma home and stick Sky on! Unless you watch DVD's constantly or are like most of us and watch normal tv 99% of the time then that is what you want to watch when choosing a tv surely

What make and model were the two TV's in question?
If the LCD was a 'Happy Shopper' special and the plasma a top brand jobbie then your review is hardly fair is it

Did you also check to make sure they were using the same quality of Scart leads on all the tv's you looked at? as these make a huge difference to the quality

They were both about £1500, either Philips or Panasonic from memory. It was a very high quality LCD screen, I can tell those when I look at them!

I must say, a £1500 LCD TV is at the bottom of the scale

A year or so maybe, but not any more IMHO

You can be really cheap and buy unbranded models for £700, look at the maker of the actual LCD panel and shock horror it is exactly the same as a branded set costing £2000

I think the TVs are expensive for what you get, my 20" Dell TFT on my PC runs 1600x1200 resolution, has loads of inputs, 16ms response time and still cost under £400. They dont even make tellys that run at that resolution

Look at this Apple 30" TFT, now this is what you call high def! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd30.html

If you like watching sport, don't get an LCD! the big ones look terrible in my experience! They struggle to keep up.

I am REALLY fussy about picture quality but have been absolutely BLOWN away by my Plasma. soooo pleased with it. Its all HDready and so all ready for next years HDTV

I did alot of research and reading (ok I let Renton do it ) but glad I did. The two big Plasmas worth getting are the Pioneer and the Panasonic. I prefered the asthetics of the Pioneer and it was a 43 not a 42 so got that one. It has an amazing picture! Renton has the same one. Anyone who sees it is really impressed. 2 of my mates bought the same one after seeing mine!

You shouldn't look in poo places like Comet or something and tell how good they are because the input signals they use are pants and the YTS kids they use normally set them up wrong!

I got the Pioneer PDP 435XDE. Richer sounds sell one that looks the same, but its NOT the xde so don't get it. Screen is not as good apparently.
