Default XR4x4---- are the 2.8 and 2.9 flywheels interchangable?

I've just bought a 2.9 XR4x4 and a 3.9 V8 engine on Ebay and plan to do a 4 wheel drive V8 conversion using the MT75 gearbox, an adaptor plate and one off flywheel to use the Ford starter motor. I have access to a 2.8 flywheel to measure up but need to know if it is compatible with the MT75 box and starter motor? I know 100% that a cossie 4x4 cluch fits the 2.9 flywheel, will it fit the 2.8?
If not does anyone have a 2.9 flywheel nice and cheap?
Thanks for any help, I will post pics when conversion is under way

the flywheels are interchangeable on 2.8 and 2.9 yes - as its the same block.

however, the clutches arn't the same due to different gearboxes - type9 on the 2.8 and mt75 on the 2.9

Looks like I had better find a 2.9 flywheel then, thanks for the info

I allready have a rear wheel drive V8 Sierra using a T5 and adaptor bell housing and it for sale on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=4587653264

A V8 4x4 has got to be the ultimate all round Sierra

There was one in the Spring edition of Fast Ford. I think it was a 3.5l V8 but not powerful as I remember - about 220 ish bhp.

So I could use the 2.9 clutch and starter with a 2.8 flywheel and MT75 gearbox without problem? I not actually going to use any of the Ford flywheels but need one as a patern to make a new one with the Rover V8 center and some offset to allow for an adaptor plate, it would be a massive pain in the ass if I spent countless hours making a new one based on the 2.8 only to find that the Cossie clutch wont fit or that the ring gear is a different dia.

Anyone running a 2.8 flywheel on a 2.9 XR4x4 on here?

cheers

Mark
