can you just "remove" a imobliser?
my mate went to start his car yesterday, and he couldnt.
he said there is an imobliser but it never seamed to do anything, and yesterday he noticed it had started flashing, its one of these ones where u have to put a chip in it. He has the chip but it aint working.
When he turns the key the dash lights come on, but thats it.
if we was to trace the cables out where do you think they might go?
he said he would be happy if we just got rid of the imobliser all together. whats the chances of being able to do this with out any car alarm knowledge. but both of us have a decent electrical knowledge.
I tried things like cleaning the contacts on the chip and the slot for the chip, but this didnt help.

there's no reason why you can't if you're very careful
i removed a clifford alarm/immobiliser on a saab , managed it in the end after about 5 hours. never again
that was a similar situation- started playing up just wanted it gone, and i have no alarm knowledge just general electrical
only problem is you can't do half a job
and also make sure the non- starting is not a different fault eg car ecu, or you will get in a right muddle
personally i would steer clear, you know what it's like- you try to do someone a favour and you end up writing their car off.........

is it likley that the wires from the chip slot next to his steering wheel will go back to some kind of control box. and the imoblised cables will of been cut and put on this control box as well?
if so we will just follow the cables to find the box, find the cut cables and re join them.

ina nutshell yes but if an immobiliser has been fitted properly chances are they would have shortest the immobilised wires to stop theives rejoining the cables! If so extend the wires with correct ampage wires.

I did this and then realised I couldn't start my car.
You need to find a wiring diagram for the imobiliser. I got one off the net.
As mentioned they only usually cut a few things such as fuel pump and coil, you just need to reconnect them.
