How much do you have to spend on a new car?
To get your money's worth?
I've been driving a Brand new car now for about 2 month's and must say its shit, it doesnt excel at anything and isnt better at braking, steering, handling or performance than something 15 years old. List price is 16k i think and the only good things about it are boring stuff like the heater warms up quick or all the bars on the heated rear screen work
So on that note how much cash would you have to part with to think "great, this is really worth the £xxxxx price tag" ??
Doesnt matter if its a performance car or not, just in general it would need to excel at something

How much is an SR8?
I don't think I could bring myself to buy a new car and watch it hemorrhage 60% of it's value in 3 years

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
For me the clio 182, can get new ones from car supermarkets for about 13k if your not fussy about what colour you want
And they'll embarress performance cars that cost twice as much.
Having said that it will fall apart at some point , so then yeah you need to spend more to get a decent car, so my post is useless

Thats my point, fortunately I'm only leasing this pile of shit from work and after only 2 month's i can honestly say i wouldnt want to pay half of the list price never mind 16k.
I cant think of a car i wouldnt mind a) spending a shitload to buy and b) losing so much of its value in a short period of time.

Not really pointless mate as it DOES excel at something (handling/performance) and after reading about it keeping up with a 6 series beemer in EVO mag then i'd say its worth its 13k, although probably alot cheaper getting one 6 month's old with about 5k on it.

Why buy a pile of shite French bean tin anyway ??
Plenty of 'proper' cars for £26k about !! Not really my cup of tea but what about a brand new Civic Type R and about £8k change ?? Safer and more fun than a Clio. Never mind all this 'Renaults are safe now' - maybe they are with all this Euro NCAP whatever but I still remember the 5 Turbo that used to fold at 35mph.......and even 20 years on from that they STILL can't build a car that doesn't feel plasticky and have a wank gearbox !!! Sorry lads, don't like French cars and thought this might liven this up a bit
Used - where do you start ? RS500, Evo, Skyline.............

Well 1st ly i thought we were talking new cars (as the 1st post suggests)
0-60 of the clio is 6.9
Porsche Boxster 2.7 S 2d Tiptronic is 6.9
Volkswagen Golf Hatchback 2.8 V6 4MOTION 3d is 6.9
Audi TT Coupé 1.8 turbo is 7.6
SEAT
Leon Cupra R 1.8 20v is 7.0
Theres some new cars that cost around double the clio, and theres not much difference in the 0-60 times (i know there not the best guide, but only figures i have to hand), and i bet a clio wud'nt fair badly against them on a track
I know maybe i was a bit over the top, but the clio will hold its own against most normal everyday road going cars that cost twice as much

for 26k or 13?
http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews...s-1003468.html
for 13, erm? are fiesta STs available at car supermarkets?
for 13 secondhand with enough left over to maintain it for the duration of any manufacturers warranty... masses of motors!

And i'd like to see a new car for a grand that could upset a clio 182
A fiesta ST wouldnt stand a chance against a 182, have a read of EVO magazine from a few month's ago, they got bored testing the clio against hot hatch's cause nothing could match it, they ended up testing it against a BMW 6 series coupe thingy, and it kept up with that aswell
Alot of car for the money, and would probably consider one if i had the cash
