Yeah i think the sour grapes thing applies...

Lets face it just like my missus the Sapph is an old mans car that in some people eyes isnt even a true performance car.

For them to get beaten by a car which isnt in the same class as a lotus must have gutted them TBH. For a moment i didnt think it was going to be showed as i was thinking just that myself

Really enjoyed seeing it on TV, lets hope its not the last time

Agree with that, it got fairly represented i reckon, and you couldnt expect too much time dedicated to it really.

Well done guys - Superb! Made my week watching that

I guess the old PRO R worked its magic then

A report on the oil or a sample for analysis would be nice

PM me if you want to discuss this.

Cheers

Simon,

the report reads....

PRO R stayed in the cossie engine.

Unknown make took a fancy to a trip outside the engine

Well done Rod & Mark As a couple of others have said, I didn't think it was sour grapes not featuring it more. Obviously I would have liked to see more personally but as it wasn't the main focus of the article I thought they did it justice.

They were, bigger but reconned.
Was clearly bigger, and the std ones they removed has the cossie style 3bolt outlet, the ones they replaced had the 5bolt outlet that needs an elbow like most turbos.

Huge well done, not only is your car super fast, it's also super reliable!!

How many 190+ runs has it done now? Unbelievable really, I think it must be something like 25 odd on that engine!

Well done guys!

Castrol RS used some every run out of the breather since changing to Pro R no loss of oil from the breather whatsoever .
Your oil works Simon & i will recommend it to anyone.

I agree totally but he does own MAD. .
I actually feel a bit of a wimp, cos i was frightened at 193, have done 200+ in the dry no probs but that was crazy. I just want to know how ?
I honestly believe 99.9999% of people on this Forum would not have done 200 on that day & he does it one handed looking like a M&S advert.

What sort of cash would it take to get a R32 to crack 200mph at brunters? they can be had for around 8k so if you spend what 5th gear spent (was it around 30k? so that leaves 22k) would you get anywhere near? If not i think they'd still of been closer than the lotus
thatd get you well past 200

I am sure in years to come I will look at it and think I was totaly stupid , I did have both hands on the wheel when I got in to 5th as I was still fighting with it @185mph ,
I have also done these type of runs for years the only diff is they are now much faster .

At least without a helmet on you had half a chance of hearing any 'warning' noises from the engine and drive train Mark
Don't think one or a belt would have saved you if it had gone tits up anyway at that speed to be honest!

10 out of 10 for comedy value though, what a half arsed attempt at 200. They should have paid for parts that would do the job first time not repair their mistakes. No planning and a true embarressment, for £15,000 more they could have had their own sapphire that does 200+.

I think the conclusion was that you cant do 200 on that tight a budget? £30,000 ish sounded like their total budget?? they really were tight There is a minimum you have to pay and lots of planning/spec work involved otherwise anybody could do it.

Spadge I am sure that any kind of crash at that speed I would have been dead ,
Maybe if it had been caged up with all the correct safety stuff then I would have been worth wearing the correct safety Eq,
I still think in many years I will realise how stupid I was doing all these topspeed runs

Not necessarily there will be many GTR tuners out they that could do it you just have to choose them,
The Lotus would have been a good car to choose if only the right people were chosen,
I spoke to 5th gear about this many months ago and told them throw 10 to 15k at the engine and Ecu and it would do it but sadly you can take a horse to water but you cant make him drink

So when is the tow bar going onto the Saff for a crack at the Caravan record

Bosch-Man

Until the record is broken then it is still mine and Rods so if or poss when it gets broken then it will belong to someone else and unless someone else comes to me and asks to take it back I wont be bothering

Phil one record they can never take away 1st past 200mph.
I honestly believe that a Cosworth road car will never beat the records we set unless Ford make another Cosworth as these old girls are getting on a bit.
The times we set will be beaten, but not in a full weight road car thats used on a regular basis on the road.
I expect even a specialist car like Martins will require Nitrous to crack 215mph as the Power required gets silly & the ruway dont get longer as braking distance increase, already we are reaching 210mph (1.4miles) in less distance than a 550bhp Cosssie takes to get to 175mph simply because we require more runway to stop. Any Speed past 212mph will be very difficult to beat in the 1.5miles we use, the Brunters record is 211 & thats deffo on in mine. I want many others to try it & then & only then will they realise what it takes to produce a road car that can crack 200 inside a mile & we know mine can do it.
However like Mark when i quit after a proper dry run, NOTHING will make me do it again. The memories will stay & my friendship with Mark last but fast cars will become a thing of the past & i will continue collecting my old books & cigarette cards which are my first love.

Shame that Mark and Rod As in my life time I will never get the chance to visit the moon, or afford to fly Virgin Galactic to be in space, but to do 200mph in a car is a possibility, and if the sapph will do it another 4,300 times charging £10 a time, you get that £43,000 back and plenty of happy people that have done 200mph! So, can you handle it another 4,300 times lol how about 430 and charge £100 a time!

In fairness, remember the feature was about getting -their- budget car to 200mph, and to prove it could be done on a budget by a none-manufacturer, they showed Fensport and MADevelopments cars. They didnt have to suggest this, nor did they have to show the footage of it when the Lotus still didnt make it, but they proved it could be done with the MAD car then went back to the Lotus. I dont think they were disgruntled either, Tom Ford clearly mentioned Tiff got beat, and Tiff accepted it, commenting that it took 6 years to do it, which is obviously in-accurate because 6 years ago Rod and Mark were not thinking "lets crack 200mph" lol Main thing for Mark is the car was advertised, clearly stickered with MAD stickers and video proof it can be done, just a shame Tiff didnt mention "MADevelopments" as he did "Fensport". Get it on Top Gear I say, see what the Stig can do with it round the track and hear Jezza's opinion's after meeting Mark in a previous encounter during Full Throttle lol

Quick Reply: WELL DONE MARK & ROD
