I wore my normal seatbelt not the Harness, i just forgot about it. I was scared & i make no bones about it , wheels Spinning at 175 is an aquired taste, 200+ was never a possibility with me drivin or 99.9999% of all drivers. I braked as late as Mark but could not keep my foot in during the run it was far too wet.

Rod, Total respect! - Those speeds in the dry are insane, let alone the wet- with just a seat belt on, the fastest I have done is aprox 155ish in my old S70R T5 and that was fast..... So I take my hat off to you and Mark!

Awesome stuff, they didnt really give the sierra much airtime, but at least it got some, and thats all that could be expected when it was just an "extra" not the main focus of the piece.

Not even sure the bentley can do 0-200-0 in less than two miles ? Not many cars can do that, let alone in the wet

Many cars have a 200mph top speed, but remember, this is usually on a closed, banked loop where they can build speed up over a long time/distance.

What I still find truly shocking about rod's car, is that he drives it there (did you see how dirty it was ), runs up to 200mph a couple of times, and drives home, where most arrive on a trailer, and go home on a trailer.

Just looked at the figures for the Veyron, 0-186mph in 16.7, Rod's, 0-150 in 13s in the wet

You guys (rod and mark) really are an inspiration - well done again

As my Jen said (obviously more objective than me ), she couldn't believe they devoted so much time to abject failure and then so little time to 100% success, job done. Obviously smacks of sour grapes that basically a two man team could achieve what the entire Fifth Gear team / budget / planning could not .

They could have achieved their aim with the Lotus, if they had picked the right people to do the project IMO. Complete farce regarding the Lotus and totally mis-managed by people who obviously haven't got a clue. Should have spent the money building it right once instead of the three times it has now had to be rebuilt . Also fancy turning up to the event with a fucked clutch - egg on face or what .

Must have been EXTREMELY embarrassing for all involved that a Ford Sierra turned up did several runs (all faster than the Lotus and one run with a 60 year old driving ). Just makes you realise how few people there are out there that can actually do good job of managing and completing such a project.

What they should have done with the engine:

Decompressed it (as they run 8:1 compression), fitted bigger turbos (not reconditioned standard items ), suitable injectors and mapped it live on a runway to check for det. Given that it is a 3.5 litre V8, it should have EASILY been able to achieve 650bhp without the aid of NOS. I believe Bernie also offered his services to them to sort out the gearbox, so if this had been beefed up from the start, it would have saved them a fortune in labour (along with the fortune it would have cost to repair the engine three times if it had been done properly as well ).

Also, it runs a Citreon / Renault gearbox and drive shafts (not mMetro ones ) that are rated to no more than 300lbft, hence why the standard car is boost limited in first and second (and it only runs 6-7psi as standard, as it runs no intercoolers and this light pressure set up normally ). The GT car they built for racing with only 450bhp (using similar methods to the one on Fifth gear last night) used to twist the drive shafts like wrought iron gatework, hence why Quaife have a proper gearbox listed for it (Ł10k though ).

Well done guys!!!!

It seems I'm not the only one (i.e. Mike) who thinks a) 5th Gear know nothing at all about engines and how they work ('ooh what's 'NOS' like!') b) planned their car VERY badly and c) gave little time to the achievment of Rod and Mark , which did seems like sour grapes! Just shows I suppose how little all these journo's actually know, or even appreciate, about the efforts/achievements of tuners/modifiers.

A new series of show has been born......we had Family Guy and American Dad and now 'Cardigan Guy'

Well done Mark/Rod

Ditto what Mike said.

I think Tiff, Vicky and Jason learnt a lesson during this project. To build a reliable 200 MPH car takes alot more than just chucking money at a fast car to make it faster.

Sierra and Corolla several years development, Lotus 8 months mostly being rebuilt

PMSL at the clutch failing aswell. With the amount of work done on that car you would have thought they would changed the clutch as a matter of course.....

Well done again to Mark and Rod.

Well done guys.
Perhaps PF should start bombarding Fifth Gear with mail demanding that they come back and do a proper feature on the Cossie.
After all they devoted 10 minutes to those Lax Bowels Chav motors so why not do a feature showing what is required to make a genuine 200mph car.
