Had an offer on my car....what should i do?
Spoke to a mate last night who is currently looking for a new car, we got talking and I stupidly mentioned as a joke that he should buy mine. It turns out he is seriously concidering buying it!!
Started talking money, and asked him to make me an offer....the offer made would mean i would get back 85-90% of the money I've put into the car
BUT.... I've only had it on the road in its current state for a few months!! Even though its such a good offer, shouldn't I at least enjoy the car before selling it on, otherwise what was the point in going through all the effort of getting it to what it is today if all i'm going to do is sell it to get my money back
BUT... A S2 is not the car I really want at the end of the day...my dream car to own is a dark blue Escort Cossie, and with this offer I could own one outright by Christmas
BUT...Insurance would be expensive and it would probably be slower than my S2!
Dont get me wrong, I had no intention of selling my car before last night (and still dont tbh) as I love it to bits right now and if it wasn't such a good offer I would have just laughed in his face. So wtf do i do?
HELP!!!

Dan,
The Escort Cossie would be loads slower than your S2, but it's the difference between a boy's car, and a man's car.
The Es Cos is 50 times the drivers car over the S2, so if it's an offer you can't refuse, get shot.
I still think your S2 is one of the nicest ones out there, but wouldn't it be better to make your dream car a reality?

go for the coz mATEY!! A mate of mine had the exact problem, some one offered him top dollar for his car and deposit there and then. He said no as he wanted to keep as he had just spent ŁŁŁŁŁ on it. Then when he finaly decided to sell, no one wants to pay the money for the car!
As my gran used to say to me "Never look a gift horse in the mouth!"

If the offer you got was a good one mate and you deffo want a Escort Cossie then go for it
Now here's the but you are going to have to find the dark blue cossie which I thought wouldnt be easy and be tempted not to spend any of the dosh before you find one
Good luck with you desition mate

I am stuck right in the middle at the moment....
I look at a pic of mine and think how the hell could i sell this now....then look at a pic of a dark blue escort cossie at the northants show and think.... i could have one of them!!
My mate who wants it is one year younger and has yet to sort insurance out... so that may have the final say.
I mean how could i sell this....

Saying that, SCC had a dark blue cossie in the other week and even though its wiring was screwed, I would have swapped mine for that right then if i had the chance...

I have just yesterday sold mine, to do exactly the same thing! I've had 3 RS Turbos now, and I'm hankering for a cos something mental. So I've just decided to do it!
I love RS Turbos, and may buy one again in the future, but now it's Cossie time!

go for the cossie, it may be slower but will be a better all round car, plus quite cheap to get to stage 3, but take into account the running costs mate. I could buy one tomorrow if i wanted, but just cant justify the cost if things go a bit pear shapped to her that controls the purse strings
do it do it do it, and whoop keiths butt in style and just think when max has a blast with you and lights up the rear wheels your 4X4 will leave him for dead

mint car mate . but sell , i sold my restored S1 in same situation and bought imperial blue escos. Was dissapointed with cos at first (standard) after s1 but now running stge 3 and doing lots of track days at goodwood. no regrets what so ever , much more of a drivers car.... JUST BE AWARE OF COSTS IN RUNNING COSSIE IS MORE THAN RST...............DOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTT

Dan,
Check out the insurance and general running costs of the escos and see if they are within budget now. If they are then let the S2 go and get the car you really want. If its going to be a struggle to afford the cossie then keep with the S2 now until its more finacially viable.
There's nothing worse than buying a new car and having to run it on a shoe string budget.

I had the same dilema a few years ago, i had my RST that I loved to bits and had no intention of selling, but someone made me an offer that was soooo good and it was gone. Best thing I ever did - never would have got a better offer, and looked where I ended up

Thanks for the advice chaps!
Going to have a long chat with my dad tonight and see what he thinks i should do.
If it was possible for me to start looking for a cossie straight away I think i would accept the offer, but I dont think that would be the case.... we shall see

Is this your way of bottling from the 18th????
Seriously though Dan i've always wanted a sapphire cosworth which i now have but i still have the S2, But when the Sapphire is finished i'll be getting shot of the S2.
I think Karl sums it up TBH if you can't afford to run the ESC COS then Don't! How pissed off would you be if you wanted to start modding the COS but couldn't do due to running costs? Especially if your S2 felt quicker.
If you can't afford to let the offer go then sell it! But could you live with driving the Clio until the funds were enough for the Cossie??

Dan - defo check out what the insurance is gonna cost first and 'if' you can even get insured on an Esc Cos.
Also...... I saw that pic you posted on another forum of your car in the garage, it looked a pretty tight squeeze, and Esc Cos is quite a wide car, you need to double check it's going to fit.
If you do decide to sell then nice one,but dont rush into the decision, think it through properly.

I see you have to make a hard choise. I had an RST which was fast also. not as yours but I could sell it to buy a cossie. two very differend cars. the cos is more expensive but is a more complete car. the tuning potential is great.
good luck.
good luck.

Insurance is in the region of 2-3k which I can afford but I'm not repared to pay tbh and i'm not prepared to not have an rs for an extended period of time as it nearly killed me last time.
We've had an Aston in there Clare believe it or not lol, so it should fit. And I had a cossie rep (bit shorter than a real one) but the width was fine.
Think i've come to a decision now away.... how could i possibly sell a car that cains the fook out of keiths snail mobile
Thanks again everyone for your 5 pence worth! Think the cossie can wait for another year yet
Karl Norris aint finsihed with mine yet anyway

Well..... I like S2's as much as anybody, and your car is certainly a stand out. BUT no matter what you do to it and how fast it is, it will always still be just an RST. Just to be able to turn around to one of my mates and say "I think I'll take the Cossie out tomorrow" would be enough to make me sell!
Not trying to say anything bad at all about your car here, I just know that if it were me I'd regret keeping it every time I saw a Cossie.
Your choice mate, but that's my 2p!

Hi m8. I havent posted on here for 2 years but saw my bro browsing and i read your post. Keep your Escort. I was in exactly the same situation a bout 2 years ago and was the worst move ive ever made. Insurance was 2k for the saff cossie i got, and i missed my Escort like made. Every week something broke or needed replacing. I gave up with it after 6 months after spending approx 3k in that time And i sold the escort to a total tool who neglected it harsh. But you live and learn m8........

but yours is a shed and no-one in there right mind would buy it!!
Point is, i cant afford to replace it straight away and I'm not prepared to pay the stupid insurance rates or go without an RS for months on end again. So i'm going to keep it
But one day.....
