A guy i used to know had a 4x4 S2 Escort turbo in about 1996.From what i remember i think it was built by collins and run a cosworth management system. It was quick i went to Nantional day in it one year and even got to drive it.It was a white G plate with white revolutions on it.Whilst at Donny we even saw the magazine feature of the car with my mate on the front cover. He lived in southport but another guy in Stoke owned it before then and now he does a bit at Collins.I was told as about 16 of them had been made but i never saw any others.

might be woth reading my little story:
i duno if this is just coincidence but. around 4 years ago in a garage that my dad & a good friends dad owned. i can remember how we came across it in our yard but we ended up with a white mk4 escort with a whale tale fitted, perspex windows, roll cage & i am posative there was somthing about the floor pan that was diffrent. & sein this thread i ve just clicked on it was for 4x4 running gear. SERIUSLY. it was a bare shell & we thaught nothing of it at the time & we either scrapped it or sold it to a rally car collector at a farm in tyne & wear sumwhere. how much do you think id would have been worth?

Weren't the first MK5 development cars RWD and V6 using sierra running gear and the Scorpio 24v lump. I'm sure I saw a red one at a motorshow years ago.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
As mentioned earlier in the thread the front bumper looks like the top half is off an escort and the bottom off a 3 door cosworth. The side skirts also look like they are off a 3 door cosworth? They still struggle to keep the wheels under the front arches

On page 81 of Sporting Fords Vol5 by Jeremy Walton there is a picture of a 4x4 S2, reg E388 YVX with Mr Ray Diggins beside it. Text mentions that this system was later used in the RS2000 4x4.
Sorry if this has been posted here already, its late and I have not had time to read all the pages of this post.

wow, loving this thread, been pondering making my s2 4x4,posted a thread about it in general discussion, and everyone said it would be crap.
looks like the white s2 has the 3 door bodykit cuz the rear axle would have been longer and the wheels would have poked out of the arch.
mite have to rethink my plans again lol

Until seeing this thread thought nothing of it as gartac made rwd escorts but know he had lots to do with the 6r4 development, they made a 6r4 with a 500bhp fire breathing what would be today known as the m-series found in the early tickford turbo's but reliability forced them to dump it and go with N/A to get it done in time. They also tried a supercharged version of the v6 but again unreliable, he had the engine there and was chatting for about 2 hours, i only went foor a spoiler and door for my mk2 at the time lol

Hi Guy's
Hope these pictures give you some idea what the original one would of looked like, It's fantastic to drive but cost a small fortune and 10yrs to build. Not sure what the final power will be as still running in at the mo. Still need to sort out the speedo as it's got the electronic pick up off the gearbox not cable and need to have a carpet made, hopefully be ready in time for next years shows.
