it allows the plenum temp to be displayed as an absolute valve as apposed too the modified valve used in the ecu calculations

This type of topic shows the power of PF when used properly.

It would have been quite hard to find that info anywhere in teh world

update:
just had a play with mine
and dipswitches 6,7,8 do appear to have some small effect on mine
before, i didn't have the 'total engine run time'
but now i do.....??
and some of the other displays have changed too
are the monitors all the same, or does it vary?
i have a startup screen of "FIRST MOTORSPORT"
Although i see no eprom, so is it stored in RAM?
don't think it loads that name from the ecu as it shows that first and then loads from the ecu eprom

cheers

maybe it depends on the software version, mine is 6.52...
would like to get hold of the pectel software for logging
Does anyone know ift hey still sell it, or is this stuff too ancient/obsolete for them to bother with now?

ok got the dart working with 98 but can't get it working on xp computer guess it's just too old
no worries cos the laptop i use is 98
but it's only logging 7 data channels, the main one i want to log is egt

so far i have found that, contrary to the instruction book, my version of the pectel gives:

dipswitch 2 ON gives oil pressure

dipswitch 3 ON shows exhaust temp

dipswitch 8 ON shows fuel pressure

interesting though, well to me anyway

I guess the manual being mailed out are the one I scanned and since my monitor ispretty old its manual probably aint got all the later functions that later revisions made possible. Just a guess why the manual don't cover some functions.

Have you got part numbers for the correct fuel and oil pressure senders - my monitor didn't come with any, and I can't find anyone who can give me a specific sender part number, only "just use VDO", but of course they make different senders, probably with different calibrations.

Similarly, what thermocouple, and does the extension lead need to be compensating or not ?

Cheers
Jon

im sure the thermocouple is type k, and you dont really need a compensation cable just an extension

as for the sender i dont really know

i would also like to know about the pressure senders
tried the one that came with a racetech oil pressure gauge and its way out

for thermocouple, like gareth says any k-type will do, the one i has comes with a long lead on and the correct plug, i read that normal copper wire cannot be used for an extension or accuracy suffers

but there are 2 pots inside the monitor on a seperate board for the thermocouple, i guess for upper and lower calibration points?

compared my reading to a standalone k-type thermometer and it was accurate

ypu gptta use a thermocouple extension cable, is has two wires of different materials so not too act as another hot junction

but there are 2 pots inside the monitor on a seperate board for the thermocouple, i guess for upper and lower calibration points?
these would be base and span i guess,, i wouldnt bother playing

ill upload the manual,,, so anyone can have it

Andreas has yours got the oil pressure and fuel pressure functions?
anyone with any newer instructions? i still can't work out how to toggle between 7 channel and 9 channel logging

I havent got any extra connectors for either fuel or oil pressure but will try and see what happends if I play around with switches 6-9.

Perhaps its possible to modify mine to get these functions too as I would love to log fuel pressure and EGT.

there's some vdo senders here under the STACK stuff
http://www.motoscope.co.uk/gauges.htm
but they are 0 - 10 bar
when i have no senders connected the oil and fuel pressure channels read 5 bar,
does that mean they will only read up to 5 bar
and need 0 - 5 bar sensors?

ok i just bought a second pectel monitor
this one has a different pcb inside with a conventional EPROM unlike the first one.
on power up this one reads
FORD MOTORSPORT
BOREHAM

then software version 6.60e

ok i viewed the data in the eprom, and could read all the error messages and displays in the ascii text, but could not see the startup message. why? is it encrypted, or is it not stored in the EPROM. either way i don't see why....

also i got the first monitor to log egt, fuel and oil pressure etc by playing with the dipswitches, then the DART just automatically showed the extra traces up, so i was pleased about that

also, with no sensors connected i.e. open circuit, the pressures (oil and fuel) both read 15 bar whereas the other one they are 5 bar, so does it require different sensors?

I think an email to VDO may be needed to get the resistance/pressure curves for the different senders.

The only info I have found so far is that the resistance ranges up to about 180 ohms at higher pressure. If you know what your fuel/oil pressure is, say, at idle, it could then be worth having a play with various different resistors to replicate the sender (connect a resistor between the appropriate monitor wire and earth) until the monitor gives close-on to the reading you'd expect ie if at idle your fuel pressure is 60psi, and a resistor of 150 ohms gives a reading of 60 psi on the monitor, it's just a case then of comparing this resistance value to the different sender curves to select the closest one.

If anyone knows the correct sender, or can think of a better/easier way than this, spill the beans.
