how much would it cost to get a new plug put on the end of my monitor loom? not too much is it?
Also can i add the extra wires in to the loom for the fuel pressure and egt sensors that some of your monitors have.
and will my version that has the fuel and ignition trimmings still data log the same as your units although it does nht have a pc serial connection lead? can it be added?
i just bought this 1 in this pic but wont get it till week after next i dont think so cant tell you the software version as yet

are those wires labelled with little numbers on them? (hard to tell from the photo) -would make it easier.
but not a problem either way

well you might craze for such features but you probably won't end up using them...
but normally the datalogging wires go to the big 'amp' round plug anyway and then back out to the 9 way 'D' on the ones I've seen (though not actually handled a 'swinger' version myself)
very much doubt it has egt though as that's done with a seperate interface board inside and being a thermocouple style needs the proper thermocouple wires/ plug which yours blatantly hasn't got

Matt, you will need a COM1 port and an old laptop to be able to connect the pectel monitor to download datalog.
Also the VDO sensor you need to use is a 5-10bar version.
Regards

Ah yes, ok thank you ! I have an old laptop, with Win98 on it and the pectel software is working. Its just I have only a USB and a PCMCIA port on the laptop, so I will get an adapter ![Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
Are you sure about the 5-10bar version ? Looking at the VDO website, I can only find sensors which goes from 0bar, not from 5bar.

If you use a 0-5 bar your readings will show double of what they are on the pectel monitor.
Thats why you use a 5-10bar this way the readings will be correct.

makes no sense. and how is a 5 - 10 bar sensor supposed to measure a fuel pressure of 3 bar?

an educated person used to calibrating and measuring with sensors does not need to try it to know that a sensor starting at 5 bar (if there is such a thing) cannot possibly read the fuel pressure correctly or anything else below 5 bar.
and if the readings are double what they should be on a 0 - 5 bar sensor, then a 0 -10 bar should be correct. but that all depends on whether you are talking about gauge or absolute pressure

Maybe the pectel monitor convert the signal, but anyway what I am gonna do is to buy a 0-10 bar sender, as for oil pressure I don't know what else you could use, and see if it works with the fuel pressure too. But I first have to finish the engine and the car, so that won't happen before spring, but I think it is the best route to follow.

The pic below shows the resistance versus pressure of the complete range of VDO sensors. These sensors have maximum pressure ratings of 2, 3, 5, 10, 16, or 25 bar.
Also shown (in red) are Stu's (user name on here is "the original") Pectel monitor fuel and oil pressure channel readings when a variable resistor was used to replicate a sensor. As you can see, none of the VDO sensors are a particularly good match for what his monitor requires for the variable resistance. There is reasonable correlation up to approx 1 bar and 3 bar, but these values are too low for expected fuel and oil pressures. This may be adjustable inside the monitor, but I haven't investigated that far yet.

As everyone showed their tits (
) I'll show mines :

6.52e version, switches (1:ON, 2:ON, 3:ON, 4:OFF, 5:ON, 6:ON, 7:OFF, 8:ON) does have EGT, OIL press and FUEL press inputs, but no warning lights.
I had that quick look inside, but didn't want to remove everything, will have to look carefully how to disassemble it, don't wanna break anything lol.
Have to find out now how to add warning lights !
