Default Internal UK flights - anyone take them?

Morning peeps.

quick question to see if anyone has travelled within the UK by plane really.

I need to go down to London next weekend and have been weighing up travel costs... (fri - mon)

Car - (my XR2) - Uncomfy as hell and im sure the 600 near mile journey wont be doing my little scoob too well and petrol will be near £60-£70.

Train - fucking HATE trains. about £60

Plane - manchester to Heathrow about £80 return all in, and only takes an hour ish each way.

Whats the deal with arriving at the airport before the flight? do you have to turn up 3 or so hours before your flight as they usually tell you for international ones, or is there better timescales?

I wouldnt usually even think about this but it could save me a few hours and will be worth it for an extra £20.

anybody else ever taken internal flights?

Whats the crack?

thanks

Adam, you have just missed out on a bargain

Some train company was doing a deal if you booked in advance to London, my mates missus went there yesterday shopping, all in it was £19.99

Adam Ash

Do it M8

I have taken loads of internal flights around the UK with work and is deffo the way to go

For internal flights you usually have to be there around 1hr before the flight time.
If you can then do it (you can have a couple of beers then)
Remember to take your passport as they will usually still ask to see it

Check-in is nowhere near as long for domestic flights Adam, It usually closes about 45mins before departure (easyjet)

Been travelling back and forth to northern ireland almost weekly for about 9 months now.

used easyjet and flybe, flybe wins hands down as easyjet is completely cr@p.

most domestic check-ins close somewhere around 30 - 45 mins before departure, passports are obviously not needed but photo id will definetly be required, so in many ways a passport is the ideal.

internal flights are pretty easy, saves a fair amount of time and agro dependant on where your flying to and from.

Manchester to london will save you a nice bit of time if thats the route you intend to use.

As Kelcos said EasyJet is c*ap. If you can avoid them do so never had a flight leave on time with them

BA / East Midland, Eastern Airways, all good to fly with

I always fly around this poxy country, cant do big train journey too much like hard work! check in normally 45 mins before just like normal flight to spain but shorter! easier, however if your going into heathrow your right over in west London, but in my opinion well worth the extra, but book quick as low fare airlines go up the longer you leave it not down!

I usually turn up an hour before check in closes when flying to Germany, so domestic flights should be no problem.
Last time i flew from germany to the UK i turned up to check in 30mins before the flight was due to leave check in was still open

If your flying to london you will fly from manchester with either:

London Heathrow with BA/BMI as no low cost airlines can fly to Heathrow,
London Gatwick BA/Jet2,
Stansted with easton airways iirc.
