Default A Trip to Engine Advantages

I made a trip to engine advantages yesterday to get a few problems sorted on the ka.

Trip prooved to be an interesting one! the up shot of it all is that the car produced 132.8 bhp at the flywheel @ 4900 rpm and 148lbft of torque at 4592 rpm.

A little surprised at that figure as i thought it was more, but apparently i could release up to an extra 10bhp if i make a cold air duct to the turbo, at the moment im just sucking in nice warm air and its not helping things that much!

A few other things were adjusted, it was running a little lean so the fuelling was upped, the idle speed was changed to stop it form hunting, though its now gone up again and so i have a few more tricks up my sleeve to try.

However the main reason was this missfiring i got, turns out its not missfiring, its the ecu shutting down very breifly due to the overboost protection kicking in. The reason? my boost guage is reading 2 psi under what it should, i think im running 8 psi when really im running 10psi and therefore the protection kicks in. A slight adjust on the bleed valve and everything is hunky dorey!!!

So all in all a very good afternoon, Paul hills has given me loads of ideas so now its off to save for a big valve head, T3 conversion and OMEX management!

Cant wait!

Spec is:

Fiesta RS Turbo Engine
Scorpion Exhaust
Blakey Intercooler
Piper 285T Fast Road Cam

Other than that the engine is standard after having a full rebuild about 4 months ago.

Need to get the cold air duct to the turbo to release some more power. I also think the timing may need to be adjusted to get full use out of the cam.

poor power figure for those mods really mate, obiously you're only limited at the moment by the std ecu.

chip that then you could be getting 200 horsies if that blakey IC is up to it?

Bad choice of cam at that spec. You'd be better off with a standard item.

Accordng to balkey i think he said that the intercooler is fit for a good 250bhp, and due to the location of it you see good act's.

A chip and a new actuator should see a nice improvement in power.

the cam was in the engine already, and i never took it out upon the rebuild as it was done only 6 months before i bought it. Its possible the cam is standard, as i only have the word of the bloke and the reciept!

For the moment i want a sound running engine, which wont at the moment do any damage to the transmission as its standard ka stuff.

In the long term im going to start building a new 1600 cvh lump cabable of handling over 250 bhp, with also a big improvement on the transmission!!

Hope you're friendly with the bank manager as achieving 250bhp aint too cheap and making it reliable even more so.

Worth it though as it's a fookin laugh

Yes i have a feeling he will become my best friend!

Im looking at Omex management mapped at engine advantages, hopefully that should do the trick but a Ł1500 supplied, fitted and mapped its not too cheap!
