My Boost Controller has the ability to Display Speed. I have always used a Ford Sensor (the one that goes in the Gearbox). Obviously this is affected by Wheelspin and mine is actually not working properly.

I have 3 options. I can either buy :-

A new Ford Gearbox Sensor
A new Aftermarket Gearbox Sensor (such as 'Brantz' or 'Terratrip' etc)
A different type of Sensor altogether that picks up off the rear wheel.

I know that the Stack Speedo's etc use a Magnetic type sensor that you can set to 'See' the Rear Wheel Studs. My Blitz unit has 1 wire that is looking for a Speed signal, will this type of Sensor give off what the Digital Unit wants to see? I know the Blitz unit isn't quite as advanced as Stack etc, but it has always been surprisingly accurate, I would just like to improve upon it.

you need either a npn or pnp proxi sensor,, can get them from farnell for about 20 quid! sorry i dont know which one as ive never used the boost controller you are using

I'm not really sure what it wants to see, but I know that you can connect it quite happily to the Speed Signal wire on most Jap Cars, so whatever signal they give out is roughly what it needs. It was also quite accurate using the Ford Sensor.

Its nowhere near as advanced as Stack etc, you only calibrate it at 25mph, but thats plenty good enough for me. It was within 2-3mph at 160mph.

What I really want is a Magnetic sensor that picks up the Wheel Studs, I guess I will have to just try it and see.

 

im nto sure what the standard speed sesnor output is,, but theres a simple way of testing,,,, connect a multimeter too the output (im guess it would be a square wave) and see if its a positive wave or a negative!

if its a positive wave you need a pnp inductive pickup
if its a negative you need a npn inductive pickup

when you say magnetic sesnor i think you mean inductive and not a hull effect

how many wires go too the standard sensor? is it pos/neg/signal?

 

just thought,, you might have a skope about the place that would be even better for measuring the wave

That is a hall effect sensor....which is what they use on the stack I believe...just trying to establish the type of sensor Christian is after...and its the only pic of a sensor I have on my p.c. lol

Ive got 4 on mine

i use the Ifm efector sensors (IE5238 IIRC)........the best IMO.
All of mine are setup so that they use the rear of the wheel studs as the signal.

Best used as they are on M8 sized so nice and small.

Ive also got the bigger M18 Mag proxy for the speedo.........
