Default Are Ford Diesels Rubbish?

Specifically the 1.8 Escort and Mondeo around the P,R and S plates.

Anyone know?

What about Vauxhalls?

Woah there man!!! The 1.8 D Fords of that age are MINT!!

Ive got an escort that has had years of hard abuse, no servicing, its been crashed into every stationary object known to man ( not to mention a few moving ones ) its done over 200k miles and its still going strong!!

Never had to replace any of the parts ( only filters........once lol!! ) and i would trust it to get me to bloody china if i had to!!

Just ask Warleydaddy how much stick it gets and its never let me down!!
In 10 years of driving, i have broken every single car ive ever owned.....except the derv. Bullett proof.

I've got a mundano td and apart from looking like a pile of shIt with a dodgy starter motor, its reliable as hell ..great engines imo

Bro has one and it's a nail. Never missed a beat

Mate has one though and it's been a problamitic sod. Day after picking it up the cambelt broke. Now the starter has gone and it's leaking oil from somewhere

Cambelts and tensioners/idler gears are a problem on the 1.8D and TD engines.....

Good idea to change them once in a while.

From my experience Ginge, it only seems to be the front wheel drive sacks of shit...mainly because the starter is right at the front of the engine directly behind a grille in the lower half of the front bumper so gets all the weather...

the only rwd ones are the long wheel base jobbys

making most trasits fwd

bit like saying in my experience all fords are reliable and you saying " what about the cosworth"

and my experience is the 19 exchange starters ( yes ford dont reconise it a waranty issue even though there one of our best sellers ) i counted,,,,,,,,,,, all but 3 was fwd transit

thats not even checking the waranty room

What are you on about now Ginge?

You lost me. What are you trying to say? Are you trying to say that because the vast percentage of Transits sold are the FWD version and suffer starter problems, so all Transits must hae starter problems?

What I was trying to say is this. In my experience of maintaining several large fleet of Transits, both front and rear wheel drive versions, has revealed that only the FWD vans suffer with the starters (due to their location) and the rear wheel drive vans don't.

That doesn't mean ALL Transits suffer with starter problems just because the vast percentage are FWD which do suffer starter problems does it?

daz ya fooker i was taking the piss

when you said you found it to be the fwd ones that are the issue i was joking as said most are fwd

i was unaware of the issue as even though i have sold a few transit starters i didnt realise that it was a problem with em, only when i done the surcharges i discovered the problem

sorry if you never understood, btw im not trying to in anyway claim i know anything about transits, especially compared to you, all i do is sell parts that the computer tells me, any gimp can do that

working on em takes skill though as im still trying to learn about diesels

and thats only cause all ford diesels are pretty much the same

I did wonder what you was getting at....

Any van which is Transit size and FWD is shit anyway, hence why I got a RWD one.

When you are near a FWD Transit Ginge, look through the grille at the bottom of the front bumper and look at what all the weather is hitting! Nothing a simple shit shield wouldn't cure!

Oh and the link in yout sig doesn't work!

I doubt that 1.8 will be around for much longer though....

The 16 valve seems to be appearing more and more...
