Default capri not starting after being driven.

hi, hope you guys can help. I have a capri which has a starting problem after its been run for a while. It has no trouble starting from cold but once warm if you stop and try and restart the car it just turns and doesnt fire. Its been taken to a local garage who have no idea what the problem is, they have cleaned the intake and changed the rotor arm and dizzy cap which were apperantly falling apart, and changed the plugs, which were black. The car is running on super unleaded at the mo which i am told will be fine. There is a spark.

Any ideas?

Hmmmm, maybe worth doing a compression check. Compression might be dropping once the engine is warm.

hmm not too sure about that as pistons etc tend to expand when hot so less chance of a leak but i could be wrong

hi sorry, should have said, its a 2.8. its been suggested it could be the cold start switch staying open all the time, therefore effectivly flooding the engine. this make any sense to anyone?

i had a 2.8 about 10 years ago and always took ages to start when hot
changed the switch and was as good as new

There is also a non-return valve at the back by fuel pump. This retains the pressure when you switch engine off - as K-Jetronic depends on pressure to start firing the injectors properly any pressure drop in system can give starting probs. I had this problem on my XR4i (same engine) - changed non-return valve and it was OK after. It always started OK when cold but not when hot - valve was about Ł16
