Seats have literally just been cut, and its not been used since, seems unlikely it will have cracked, more likely to be a harmless mark, i will check though, cheers for mentioning it, easy to get a new seat now, but hard after its installed in the car!

I am an engineer and my eye seems to get drawn to stuff like that, part of the job I suppose.

Checked last night, popped all the valves out and had a look, it was just a very very thin line of paste from where i was lapping them in, not a crack.

Does he use a van norman then and hone by portable hone?

I Recondtion 2 stroke motrcycle cylinders and have 4 SPS boring machines. I have bore a few car block and can that you do it the same way with a bar though the main caps.

The skill is definately all in the honing, he gets well under 1/2 thou of variation up the bores with a dial gauge just using the portable honer, even on larger diameter bores like this.

Van norman 944.

Yes all in the honeing very easy to get it belled out at the top as you come out of the bore and if you go to far down the stones get trapped on the main caps

Thats the best thing about motorcycle cylinder you hold them in you hand and use Horizontal hone machines and can flip the cylinder around to get any taper out.

Here is 3 of my boreing machines

And 2 of the hones, The one the he is useing is a sunnen and cost me Ł13,000

Awesome boring machines those, 50 years of service and still going strong

13 grand for a honer is pretty serious business though you would have to deal with a LOT of blocks to get that sort of investment back!
