Default Police car info please

Last nite i was caught speeding in my stage 3 saff cos, by an unmarked bmw 5 series police car ,any way after the bollocking the officer said "Its a nice car mate but its old and nowadays weve got cars like these that could eat that allday long". I bit my tongue but thought in my head like fuck would it! any way i just wanted to know,if any one knew roghly what spec the car would be.Also what spec the traffic cop cars are.I always thought that they were standard but with big brakes and better suspension, although a few of my mates reckon they are chipped and tuned.Whos right??? Also i reckon i would of easily been able to blow the copper away what do you's reckon?any info apreciated as im gutted on the points hopefully hearing that i would of been able to blow the daft copper away will cheer me up

most police cars are just the high powered models from the factory, not normally M5's but like 530's, or omega elite 3.0 litres etc

spoke to the police mechanic loads of times, engines are standard, some forces do have scoobies though, but they only use them to catch the slow cars!

When I wrote my Nova off a traffic cop interviewed me and him n my dad got talking, Dad asked what the Volvos were like, and the copper said they were fine, would push 160mph, he then said that they were not a patch on a car he used to use in the early nineties, none other than a Sierra RS Cosworth, he reckons the harder you pushed the 4x4`s the better they would hold the road, and thats when I wasnt even into Cossies at the time. When I worked at Vauxhall(yes I know, shame on me) we serviced the police Vauxhalls and the Omegas had 3.2 which were factory fitted, and all cars were fitted with uprated factory suspension, ie. Irmcsher stuff.
Also I got pulled by a undercover 5 series and later saw him in a petrol station checking the oil, so went to have a quick sneek and it was a 540 V8.

I used to no a geezer who worked on pc plods cars doing the services, and i can assure you that mostl police cars are derestricted, depending on use etc,so if that was a petrol bimmer that pulled ya,then i know that a derestricted m5 will do 201mph

if it was a new 535 diesel then they pack a 3 litre bi-turbo engine. 560Nm of torque as standard.v fast and the police ddo have some e39 m5s.

I can testify to Dumfries and Galloway Police having an M5 but it was back in 1996 when I got done on the M74

Few years ago (well, 5/6 anyway) my bro used to have a mate who would come by a fair bit and help him work on his (my bro's) Astra, cos he (my bro's mate) hod worked at Courtney. He was telling me they used to have deliveries of new police pursuit cars turn up and be modified fairly extensively and it was all hush hush.... He wasn't allowed to work on em tho as he hadn't been there long enough at that time.

How true that is I don't know, but he's the second person who has said that Courtney take in jobs on modifying police pursuit cars...

the officla line was that they would spec the biggest engine with the beefiest brakes and suspensoin in the lowest spec models

it was true for the senators and stuff but nowadays all the cars have so much stuff on them it'd probably cost more to get rid of it than the coppers would be willing to use our money to pay for

i've seen plenty of unmarked cars round my way and they all seem to be packing some serious power, the BMW estates do motor but they do tend to sound like big engines but then you have the little astra things that you can out handle (if you were a villianous type like) and i do remember one episode of some cop telly programe where their unmarked omega bruier cruier thing was left for dead by a pinto powered ghia round some council estate so anythings possible

not that i'm condoning driving around council estate mind

Irish piggies used to have V6 Omegas with courtney turbo conversions

We used to have a modded Golf VR6 pig car round here back in the day and someone I know had a MASSIVE row with the pigs after one pulled him in his 5GTT and claimed the VR6 was faster

Idve not been able to bite my tounge, idve had to have challenged piggy to a race, ripping him off in the Saff wouldve been shit hot

Id not be suprised if he was up for it if it was quiet enough, worth a go!

They had a couple in Manchester,
If they were involved in a chase the driver was not allowed to leave the car and pusuit on foot due to previous damage caused to the engines (givin it beans then turn off immediatly) so the theives got wise and used to dump and run.
There was an infamous car theif in Oldham at these times, he actually nicked a Cossie cop car from Quicks Ford at Old Trafford and went blatting around pulling his mates over

The MET's divisonal pursuit cars are rubbish. The 5 series BMWs are diesels and are shite. They handle like a boat and are well under powered. The old 6 cyclinder Vetras that they replaced were good as they were lowered with uprated suspension and fairly quick.

Was talking to a guy I know (not a mate obviously!) who is a rat and he recons the traffic cars are rubbish as well, especially the volvos. Don't forget most have been ragged within an inch of their lives as well.

Also, don't forget the best cars for outrunning the police around town are light, nippy little motors. Trickiest pursuit I ever had was against a clio (1.2 or 1.4) all around the back roads. Drove bloody well seeing as he was pissed and it wasn't his car. He gave up after 7 minutes though but I was knacked. It is hard driving a big heavy car flat out, trying not to crash, even for only a few minutes.

I don't beleive that any police force would tune any car (with the exception of Prodrive packs for their Subaru's).

Manufacturers warranty anyone? Reliability? I don't buy it

pretty much agree there, most are standard to keep the warranties etc, although most Police drivers are excellent, and will catch you.
