Northumbria Police had an Escort Cossie in the nineties aswell as a few saffs, they had two escos's apparently as one got lifted from the compound when some tea leaf scailed the fence and done off with it, was never found again IIRC

my uncle had one of them about 6 years ago, he got it from the auctions and when it was under uv lights you could see "police" plastered all over it

The 850 T5's that Kent police used about 4-5 years ago were all chipped. I used to service the photocopier in the Volvo specialist vechicle garage for Kent police The exhuast's were heat wrapped and when i asked a mechanic why he reply because the cars are chipped and run more boost than std and this makes more heat and they had a problem with melting bits under the bonnet when in pursuit of joyriders

Along with the Lotus pic, the RS200 one is just a publicity photo and were never used as police cars...

about 4 yrs ago my mate got chased by a police bike after doing about 100mph down a dual carrage way in his 4x4 saph, the copper who pulled him said "you can ethier have a ban or let me have a go and ill let you off ?"

so into the passenger seat he got and the copper nailed it about for about 15 mins with a big smile on his face all the way

My mate's in the TT owners club and they've got a connection on their site with some top driving copper who's now retired. He sells lessons in driving £800 a go or something for four hours, but during that four hours you can drive as fast as you like as he pre-warns the police and they ignore the vehicle that he's in.

I don't know how true that is, just what I heard when I went to one of there meets. Sounds a bit dubious to me.

A mate of mine works for a company called V***ons they are in charge of the entire Metropolitan police force fleet and deal with Nottingham's fleet over night when the office is closed up there, from what my mate say's the cars just have better pads and nothing else and the biggest problem they have with the cars are the police putting in the wrong fuel.

One other thing he said that was interesting is that they get points on there police driving licence for screwing up

probably get caned for this but he's probably right.. big speeds on a modern engine over a long distance is gonna be a lot healthier on the engine than on an older car IMO

theirs no repleacement for cubic capacity and those bm engines are bullet proof

oh and essex police use my motor , well they use em around lakeside

This was the Escort that had RAISED suspension, stronger wheels and rally sump guards, to enable it to chase TWOC'ers on equal footing (driving over curbs etc). However, it had standard engine.

Herts Police have at least three Octavia RS's and a couple of 328 BMW's one of which was written off not so long ago.

The ST Mondeo's were standard bar the addition of a syncro on reverse gear so it can be engaged while still moving forward. This was done as the thieving oiks would stop and reverse into the police car, setting the air bag off and ending the persuit.

Yeah, i've read that about police cars, Fast Ford about six years ago iirc!

Although, hasn't the ST's MTX75 gearbox got a syncro on reverse anyway? - It deffo isn't straight cut gears thats for sure.

Also, when the police tune these cars//t5's as mentioned above do they still leave these bits on when it's sold on?

That would only deploy the air bag if the police car was traveling over 13mph

If they ram you and bust the rad and what have you the persuit is still not going to last long.
