Default More problems

Cars started having electircal problems tonight.

First off all it won't start just seems like the batterys flat and won't turn over the engine. it dosn't seem to put enough power out either since the Cd player dies when i work the electric windows,

So i thought the altonator was on its way out, but the car runs ok and i just done a hour journey so it must be still charging the battery or engined would have conked out, i put a volt meter across it yesterday since the igition light was flickering for a couple of secs every hour or so of use, and it was putting out 14v's so it look like it was chargin fine,

It funny becasue when u bump start it and switch of the engine it stars again no prob its just after u do a journey in it, it won't start again, also the ignition light comes on when the keys are out of the ignition, any one have any ideas could this be a earthing fault, also the cd player wired off the igion barrel for it's live feed.

Could it be the altanator on its way out or could it be a wiring problem i just spoke to someone from the RS owners club who i saw in town and he had no idea, u got any clues cheers BAZ.

Ok i had i look at it today, it puts out just about 13v at 2000rpm into battery when i turn on the heater fans, main beem, window dismister, ect the voltage stars die-ing and drops to 9volts quite quick and continues to drop,

When u switch of the engine the battery continues to drain and slowly drops in voltage untill u disconnect the altonator wiring plug, then the battery slowly starts gaining some charge (like they do)

The ignition warning light stays on when the keys are out off the ignition but won't come on when the igition is switched on and doesn't come on when the engines running either, its sounds to me like the altonator is on its way out but could this also explain the discharge (short circuit), could the altonator be gone in a way that makes it short circuit and drain the battery when the engines stopped. since it was complety dead this morning. PLEASE HELP cheers Baz
