Default Cossie backfiring blows the air filter off!

How the fuck does this happen? Yep at high boost it kinda dies then does a massive backfire, and opening the bonnet the Samco and cone filter have been blown off the turbo. Has happened a couple of times now and I can't get my head round it...

WTF?

Samco hose being sucked shut at high boost?

Casued generally by a restrictive (filthy or shit) cone filter.

Seen it happen before plenty times

are you lifting off the throttle and then straight back on the throttle when it happens?

No it's flat out it happens, foot to the floor, boost comes on nicely then suddenly loses power and backfires very loud and hey presto Samco and cone filter are seperate from turbo!

I will also point out that the Samco is not properly Jubilee-clipped onto the turbo, it's kinda bodged on with a piece of rubber pipe due to the Samco being for T3 not T34. So it's not like it would require massive force to blow it off.

So I just pulled off my Samco and cone filter and spent my lunchbreak ragging it round the block, and interestingly enough the dead spot is still there, though less bad maybe, but it's not backfiring???

And it was dead fun actually, the fucking induction roar and especially chatter was unbelievably loud with no filter! I've got a RamAir I bought recently but haven't put on yet so I think the stainless steel cone is headed for the bin...

no cover on the front you DONT want to be doing that tooooooooooo often m8 turbo only has to suck a small bit of shit/stone into the front and you've got one fucked up turbo! get the proper clip on with a good condition hose and go from there

Backfire can easily see hundreds of psi in the inlet tract, normally blows a hose off between the inlet and turbo somewhere though, not upstream of the turbo like that, but i guess its jus cause its not attached properly in the first place.
