New mot test question
my car had its mot today, on the new online system
it failed but only on a CV boot!
BUT.
do you still get 14 days to sort it?
as from what i can make out from reading the fail sheet,
you now only get till the DAY AFTER the test,
ELSE you get to pay the full price of a test again,, which is now 44 fukkin quid.
CV boot is done, but there is now another problem with my car that
may well mean i cant get the bloody thing to the garage again tomorrow..
any info?

From the VOSA website:
If the vehicle stays at the test station which failed the vehicle, to be repaired
No Additional Fee (Partial Re- Examination)
If the vehicle is brought back to the same test station and retested before the end of
the next working day on one or more of the following items only:
No Additional Fee (Partial Re-Examination)
In any other case full re-examination Full Fee
Appeal test fee Full Fee
Note: Fees not subject to VAT
(fees shown are maximum fees)
Class IV
Retests (Re-Examinations)
Ł44.15
ABS Warning
Bootlid
Brake Pedal Antislip
Direction Indicators
Doors
Dropsides
Emissions
Fuel Filler Cap
Hazard Warning
Headlamp Aim
Horn
Lamps
Loading Door
Mirrors
Rear Reflectors
Registration Plates
Seat Belts (But Not
Anchorages)
Seats
Sharp Edges or
Projections
Steering Wheel
Tailboard
Tailgate
VIN
Windscreen and
Windscreen Wipers
/Washers
Wheels and Tyres
Only one Free Partial Re-Examination is permissible per full examination
So in your case, NO FREE RETEST.
I saw on another MOT advisory site somewhere that if to repair the failed item involves dismantling of anything then a Full retest is required.
Driveshaft boot seems a grey area as you could use a repair "Split Boot" which would not involve dismantling, but its still not on the Official list.

FEW things i didnt realise about the new mot!
The tester has to Swipe his personal card thru the machine, and enter
a PIN number before the test can even begin.
milage is recorded at mot, then again IF a retest is needed, so the DVLA
can see how far the car has gone to get repaired (to see if the garage is pulling a fast one, getting round the re-test charge)
There is a bar code on your new MOT form, unique to your cert.
that gets scanned at the post office when you get tax. which is another way
they are getting round fake MOT certs.
so the DVLA now know(almost instantly)
where and when the MOT is.
exactly what the car failed on at MOT (If it did)
how far it went before getting repaired,
how long it took to get repaired.
where and when you get your tax.
lol
big brother is watching. lol
I know MOTS are there for the cars safety and all, i agree with all that,
but they have just ended up making it a right hassle.
anyway.. car pass at mot for another year.
