dell direct (www.dell.co.uk)

cant beat em for the money. (just dont expect to play the latest games on it!)

even the bottom of the range ones are still over-specced for your average home user too no need to spend 1k+ on a PC nowadays, times have changed

within a week normally but i think they quote 28 days.

if you wanna go a bit more upmarket then i'd be looking at HP stuff, but its the same PC for more money, just less likely to fall apart 3 years down the line.

i wouldnt be swayed for cheap ebay deals and small name manufacturers, for the small saving you'll make on price you'll lose out on the good bits that come with buying from proper companies (ie waranties etc.!)

no diss to stu (as i build my own too) but for your average home user the fact that youve got some comeback if anything goes wrong is worth having imho.

bit like cars really... i for 15k you can build a well fast nice saph etc. etc.
or you could go out and buy a nice new ford focus.

the saph might have all the "right bits" and be a superior car, but your average joe on the street wants a new car that drives nice and if it goes wrong they can take it back to the garage and get it fixed for free

thanks steve

thats the problem isnt it, you can do a MUCH better machine than the likes of pcworld who use crap combo motherboards etc, but then there is the problem, as said above, that the people you build it for cant burn a cd at 4am in the morning

Buy a Dell,

but call them, don't order through the web, and blag some,

you can easy get 25% off if you're persistent.
You have good games spec PC's at dell, but they cost a bit

Just take one with 4 or 5 years warranty and you're laughing

Oh I like Dell better then HP, but they're both good,

just stay for away from packard bell, they use crap components.

yeah well, if you sell a pc in 2 years time still with 2 year warranty left, some poor sucker might even pay you for it, instead of having to throw it away
