Dosn't need a current MOT if its been taxed within the last 6 months so you will be fine.
Just get the paperwork from your local DVLA office and pay the money (was Ł80 when I did the same thing last year)
Can be done there and then in the office - but documents will take a minimum of 5 days to come through. But as above DO IT BEFORE scrapping the vehicle - otherwise the plate goes with it

You dont take the tax disk with you, just a photocopy, or if you have the forms already at home to fill out you just write the serial number and expiry of the disk on the form. They specifically ask you not to take the original disk with you.
You will get a retention cert that is valid for 12 months, if you havn't assigned the reg to another vehicle in that time you pay another Ł25 to retain it for a further 12 months.
They may ask to inspect the car but its unlikely, dont mention about scrapping the car to them until you've taken the reg off, they are far less likely to want to inspect if they assume its still on the road.
