Default compresion test?

as my car is smoking on over run and my water was a bit scum like, and useing or loosing a bit (cant see where though) i thought the H/g had gone ,so i have ordered a new one

Anyhow a good mate of mine came to have a look for me today
He did a compresion test on the car and each one was the same no loss or presure(125 psi I think it was )he thinks there is no problem with the

H/g.however it is over fueling going on the plugs and the 3ft flames .
So i have droped the water out and replenished it with new coolant today and had a run about. toped up the water and all the air seems to be out .But it is still smoking quite a bit on over run sort of grey .Now i know white is water and blue oil but "grey" whats that all about,.
Is the comp test a good method to test for H/g fauls?and how are those figures ??
any thoughts on what may be up peeps??

A cylinder leakage test would identify if the head gasket had failed.
