Sorry I was about to edit the post in case you picked up on that, I am indeed using a GT30 compressor stage with a modified 0.63 T3 based gated turbine for the primary stage.
And yes it fits on one side of the engine!!!! May sneak a few pics to you in time!!

I dont think Karl is saying that he might use the GT42 as the 'smaller' turbo It reads to me that the GT30 and the GT42R are the trial turbo's which Karl will then either upsize / downsize to suit what hes trying to achieve
"these are initial turbos" doesnt mean that Karl is considering using either one of the 2 mentioned turbo's in the 'initial' stage (although obviously he IS planning on using the GT30 as the 1st turbo, but not the GT42 (well i dont think so anyway )

Mike our limitation is purely engine based. We will be changing some turbo bits in time to optimise be we are pretty gobsmacked how good it was out the box
Running a scrapped linered 205 block with pistons that have done 3 seasons in a championship winning car etc is not really the base for high figures lol still on standard head, cams etc etc did not really want to rev the nuts off it unsuprisingly enough.
Problem in my head is the engine - and not really knowing what is needed for silly power - so doubt i will ever try to push it that far. I mean - do you NEED nickasil liners, do you NEED uprated rods, do you NEED uprated crank etc. I have a 200 block but dont know its limits in our application and dont really want to find them Cant afford the developement or to pay someone that has pushed cosworth stuff this far.
Is a fun project though I love turbos
Nice to see someone else trying way out the box - Karls spec sounds the nuts just hope he will take me out in it this time so i can see someone seriously push it

Dumped,
I take my hat off to you.
At last some doing something innovative and different on the cossie scene. And what makes it best is that you HAVE gone the DIY route.
Not just chucked money at some one... rather good old back yard development.
Pretty simple really when explained well (thanks Karl) but could lead to some awesomely drivable silly power motors!

15K+ Super Poster!!
Stu once said to me that nobody has really found the limit of std cossie rods.
I mean, most 500bhp engines still use mahle pistons! I use cosworth racing pistons in my cvh, and thats like half the power! Id have that forged internals would take stupid stupid power. Cylinder pressures in the block are where id assume the problems would lie. There were 4pot f1 turbo lumps though. Dont know much about liners, but im thinking some stupidly stiff material would help here
Good luck
