they are 3 layer steel with bore rings.

on the early gaskets, if the bore rings wern't lined up properly, the gasket wouldn't seal properly and would fail.

the latest revision of the steel gasket has the bore rings aligned on a thin layer of material between the steel sheets and therefore won't move out of place

all faces must be impecably clean and flat when fitting the gasket tho - or it won't seal and will fail

by far the gasket of choice tho - its what i'll be having on my new engine next year

I think mine has failed at less than a thousand miles
will take the head off and have a look to see what caused it.

I had one fail, was the older type though when it properly went took the head off to find it had been blowing across the bores for quite some time.... WRC 4 layer or std YBP is the way to go

Greeens sensible safe boost,,,.. IMO Yes, honestly I had a Cometic, on a freshly skimmed head recently rebuilt engine so As flat as possible block without decking, all lined up properly did about 5 or 6 k before blew into water gallery BUT HAD DEFO been blowing across the bores for some time

The reason I say the YBP item, is if you cant run to the cost of a gen WRC item...

Though having said that there are people who will suggest Cometic are MINT and have no probs... mine was fitted "dry" BTW

same old story different people have different ways of doing things... dry as in just like std or wet where you may smear some special stuff either side to aid sealing, I was told this by a well known tuner on this board... I would personally go with the latter option it does make more sense...

I have YB0611 on mine with std headbolts, been running upto 22psi on it with no trouble at all, and they are only about Ł60, it has done about 6-7k miles so far over about 5 years. This was just fitted dry and torqued as per manual.

Have to have a word with Stu or Karl or the other out there.

i'm sure these to tuners will give you a better run down of the gaskets they suggest and use.

Mines only on T3 set up by Karl, and when I rebuild my engine over winter am putting on another one and hoping this one is just as good, although I need 360 thrusts in my turbo as this is probably weak point as T3 is spinning fast to hold this. But I cannot see how turbo can effect gasket life.

Reason I asked is, as I understand it.....22psi on a T3 aint the same as 22 Psi on a T3/04

I am told that the block has to be decked to get it completely flat, as with it being a steel gasket, it doesnt help mask the imperfections like a fibrous gasket, such as a YB0611 or the now defunct YB01261 gaskets. The head also needs to be completely flat too.

The same applies when using the Ł400 Mountune gasket.

I tried to order one of these from Woodford recently - they dont have any left, and if they did, would be Ł120, compared to Ł60 ish for the YB0611 gasket..

They told me that they are no longer made..

I would imagine you'd have trouble getting one, unless you know of a source!
