Default Road speed limits illegal ???

Just wondering on my way home tonight.

My butchers got a ticking off by the government because his scales and prices weren't metric...

Now, all speed limits are still in MPH, surely, this is breaking some kind of european law about metrication

So, we should be able to take all our speeding tickets to European court and have them revoked, no

It has to, every speed limit sign is ILLEGAL according to European law, and this is in a country that's made any kind of imperial pricing/measuring illegal in shops

Well believe it or not it's Metric road signs that are illegal in the UK.
So if you see a road sign which gives a distance in metres or a width/height restriction in metres then that sign is illegal unless the imperial equivalent is displayed as well.
The goverment passed a ruling a few years ago to keep the imperial distances.
The excuse is that

"Both the present and previous governments have indicated that they have no plans to replace imperial signs with metric signs until the majority of drivers have been educated in the metric system, which is likely to be some time. It is for this reason that we would not consider changing the Regulations to allow the use of metric units on direction signs in the near future"

Yeah unfortunately UK has permission to retain mile, yard, foot and inch when dealing with roads.

Oh well, was thought a shot...

To be honest, I'd rather they didn't spend our tax money on changing all the road signs
