XR2 Miss-firing
I recentally had a 30thou skim before rebuilding the top-end, and now the car seems to have a slight miss-fire when you have the car in a higher gear say 5th doing 30-35mph and you accelerate hard rather than just labouring for a sec it starts missing bad and losses a third of its power,
It also seems to lose power when you rev it hard when under load compared to what it used to be like, could it be the plugs i might have damaged them when cleaning the CC up, or would it be more likly to be the ignition timing witch i sligtly retarded
(since i had it skimmed). its a Xr2 engine with a Ported Head, and k&n. PLEASE HELP?. Cheers.

If the compression is higher it might be pinking? Did you turn the dizzy clockwise to retard it? Turn it clockwise a little more until it stops and see how it goes.

I turned it anti clock wise, looking at it head on from the battry i thought this was retarding it?, it use Optimax all the time. it kinda sounds like a machin gun obviosly not as load but the same kinda ryhm, i'll have a look at it tommorrow. you reckon it could be this then. Cheers Baz

First port of call if you haven't done it already is check the spark plugs.
Had similar symptoms with mine underload it was missfiring. Turned out to be a bridged spark plug.

Just retarded the timing more and it seems to be better, but still seems to have a deeper exhaust note and seems to a bit more slugish and not as quick reacting is this just due to the extra compression since it kinda feels like something's holding it back. or could this be a side-affect of re-tarding the timing.
