Default Reccomend me some speakers + headunit

i'm after pairs of components and a pair of 6x9s

i'm after cheap ones, so whats the best for a budget. dont really wanna spend more than 150quid for all 3 sets.

i'm after a sont headunit (so i can use my existing 10CD Changer) and again want something good on a budget, 200quid max for the headunit i think.

been lookin at bssjunkies and seen this HU that looks quite nice but i'd quite like DAB radio

Not a bad looking unit there Jimbo, only thing about it I don't like is the twisty dial for the volume.

I use www.caraudiodirect.com for online I.C.E

Wouldn't use a Pony head unit in a car, They sound shite, very little brightness to the sound and just sound a little dull in comparison to other units.

Kenwood or Alpine for the headunit and speakers I would go with an Infinity component set or again Alpine. If you want to spend some proper pennies you could go with Focal speakers or DLS.

Alpine then if you like twistie dial.

You want the decent sounds in the front. Spend as much as you can on the front speakers. The rear speakers are only there to provide a bit of fill. Think of going to a concert you don't stand with your back to the band

Thats like saying why have dolby surround sound when stereo sound will do

Has anyone ever tried fading there speakers to the front and then realised how wank it sounds?

135 quid from Bass-Junkies

Mr Manchester you are a bit off the mark I'm afraid. With a proper set up it will sound better with front speakers only as it's the front that provides the stage and imaging. Back speakers are just there to fill a gap. All you gain from rear speakers is volume not sound quality

itsmeagain is correct.

however, 95% of people just stick big speakers in the back and its not the correct way to do it.

power a DECENT set of front speakers off a QUALITY amp, and the sound will fill the car anyway.

Jim, as a headunit, Ive just bought KDC-W5031 head unit. Its a face-off not a stealth, but is cheap and does look good. MP3 support as well.

i think i paid 120 delivered.

You dont know what you on about (as ever), its not the same as what you on about.

Might be the case with low rent crap you used to, but like StuH above says, im right.

all down to personal taste tho.

ive got a pioneer dex-p99r headunit, no onboard amps! I can have it set up with 3 amps

1 for the sub, 1 for front mids and 1 for front tweeter, which i did do and wernt my cup of tea, sounded good, but i like the old 6*9 rear speaker sound and a couple of subs

music from the front, bass from the rear, and make most of speakers you got with decent amps, got speakers with low wattage going to them is like running a T4 at 7psi boost.

6x9s fair enough if already got holes cut for them, decent ones with decent power to them can give ok bass if not got a sub

i WONT be running a sub, so i will need my 6x9s for bass...

i have 2 amps... both 4 channel 400watts

i can run the front + rear speakers off 1 amp, and bridge the other amp for the 6x9s

just checked the speaker sizes... ive got 6" speakers in the doors (ie front+rear) so i'll be wanting to replace them with 6inchers

ive decided i got a 400quid budget now to buy:
Headunit (altho i kinda want that sont one i posted a pic of)
Front 6" Components
Rear 6" Components
Shelf 6x9s
(N.B. Cables and Fitting will not need to be included in the 400quid)

what we recon then lads, needs makes + models... i know feck all about ICE

Actually i know EXACTLY what you mean

We all prefer our own setups, i prefer 6x9's in the rear and smaller cones with tweeters in the front. Each to there own.

gareth, thst raising it more than a little, my original buget was 300quid also like i said, i DONT want a sub...been there, done that, normal speakers will do me fine

i'd like to point out that its VERY rare that the stereo ever gets switched off of Magic FM... and very very rarely listen to anything but the radio... and at a "normal" volume. i do NOT need a decent/loud/boyracer stereo, i just want to replace my existing setup that is now well past it's sell by date (the speakers have holes in them ffs )

Spend as much as possible on the headunit and fit decent front speakers then wait a month or 2 and buy a set of reasonable 6x9's

I have a set of JBL 6x9's from my Escort you can borrow short term if you like. You fuck em though you buy em

Jimbo, I would go for these in the front.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO-505CE-...QQcmdZViewItem

then just get a pair of jbl 6x9 approx £70 for the shelf.

Power the fronts and rear on a 4ch alpine amp approx £100 second hand.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALPINE-V12-F40...QQcmdZViewItem

You wouldnt need another set of components in the rear if having 6x9s.

But personally i would fit another shelf (not hard to do) and go for 5 1/4 components in there with a 10" sub in a small enclosure so still loads of boot space left and not too much bass, will sound quite nice I reckon.

Shouldn't put components in the back anyway.

Mid bass and treble at the front (The treble is what provides the imaging) and bass and sub bass in the front.

If you want bass without a sub you can always box in the 6x9's. Only had the 6x9's in the back of the FRST for a while and it was plenty bass for a lot of people. Seem to run better from an amp though than a head unit

benn, only reason i want components in the back is becasue there are already ones in there, and i dont want holes in the car where tweeters USED to be

i had 4 sets of tweeters in the car set on the dash, set on the B pillars, set on the C pillars, and a set in the shelf

i couldnt fit any bigger than 6" speakers in the back as the shelf's too think, so might aswell go 6x9s? eh?

i was looking at a set of infinity components... 130quid... i mean theyre made by infinity and they costa few quid, so they must be good... right?

I've got Infinity Reference 2 ways in the front of the taxi Jim

They are 5.25" and are in the door with proper crossovers. Kenwood 400watt Amp powering both doors...Sounds really nice

I know where Stavros is coming from....I would rather have the main sound coming from the front as that's where your sitting. I've also got some 6x9's but as the situation with you i just keep them in there otherwise itmakes the parcel shelf look a big mess!

Think the Infinity items were about 60 pounds
