Think the clutch on my escort may have stuck and have been advised to start it in gear, and run it with the clucth peddle down to try and free it up.
Question is....is it reasonably safe to put the car on stands just off the floor and run it in the garage?

when i bent my old mk4 escort in half i had it up on stands - in the mud lol and held it on the limiter in 5th for a few mins untill my mum had a go at me
had the fooker off the clock at about 160 too pmsl
ps, i didnt even think of the safety issues back then, but if it were to fall off it will only stall

Done it, no problems but didnt fix the problem so the box is coming back out.
BillyCabrio, thanks for the advice, however I am glad I didnt put the front in the air and leave the back down.

Not a problem if its securely on the stands, there isnt enough vibration or torque reaction to shake it off a decent set of stands.
video it just in case though, at least yuo will get some cash back fromyou've been framed if it does go wrong

Going to change the clutch now, anyone know if a 2wd saff clutch will fit a pinto engine and box?
Chip, I only found out last weekend who you are
Not Glass Eye or anything like that before someone says anything.

It was a bit dodgy, due to the fact that the clutch is stuck so I had to start it in gear and if it had come off I couldnt dip the clutch

i remember my clutch was stuck on a car i had some time ago
i put it in gear and drove it around like that for about 10 mins it
went with a big bang and it was freed off try that.
ive put a car on 2 jacks and let it run in gear up to 50 mph

A Cossie clutch will not fit a normal 2.0 Pinto flywheel, and Im pretty sure its too large for the regular 5 speeds bellhousing too.
