Simon. Ford themselves wont carry out repair work on the 1.6 bottomend. It's keyless and laser alligned.

Im asking for advise on a 2.0 not a 1.7 and i couldnt give a monkeys about these puma places, not interested from the start

We sat down and had a good chat, basically my leggy and escort are my workhorses which i never sell same with the fiesta its staying in the family until the kids get older at least 5-10years an do not care for resale values these cars aint worth much standard anyway! We already got a reasonable qoute and 99% sure were going with that.

Myself an Chloe found this place very helpful in keeping our cars running, however were a little disappointed only a single person offered their services and advise in doing the work you know who you are and thank you!

ok,lets look at this sensibly...how much do you want to pay? what's your budget? and
how much power do you want?

if you think 2k is expensive for an engine conversion then seriously mate, stop modifying cars NOW you cant even buy an engine (new or reconned) for that just because you got yourself a 750quider out of the scrapyard doesnt mean thats how much engines cost hell even the PARTS for a zetec rebuild come to more than that i mean my pistons are more than 750quid

ps let us know how you go with the bloke that recons he's gonna slap a 2.0 duratec for a few hundred quid

The 2.0l engine is a 1.7 engine which has been rebored to 2.0l spec it also has a steel crank and special rods and pistons. This is why it is so expensive.

We hope to have this engine available for the end of the year but it may be a little highly tuned for an everyday car.

Also make sure if the conversion is done, its done by someone who knows what they are doing. Make sure they have qualifications in welding etc....you don't want it falling out on you or the car not being structual any more as they've chopped a load of support out the front legs for engine mounts and not supported it.. Also make sure the engine is straight. Looking a an RS focus engine puma the other week at ford fair. Weren't even fitted straight. Probably a reason for it but can't be doing the rest of the car an favours, certainly would like to doing an CAE modelling and seeing how its fatiguing the body.

Best of luck with the conversion. It maybe hard according to everyone, but we fit a multitude of engines to different cars, some you wouldn't even believe would fit, but with the correct engineering it will be an awesome car.

We got a written qoute which is reasonable, I am happy with the work they do and im sure they are qualified so were going ahead with it. Honestly do not understand the negative response, people have been fitting 2.0 to mk3's for years cannot be impossible to do. They said it will take about a week to do and its booked in.

2.0 zetec-e from a scrappy - 200 quid!

Wouldn't be a hard job to do!

I know someone in Chesire who may be willing to carry this out for you.

I think the problem here is that you are thinking of how easy it is to fit a 2.0 Zetec -E engine in a mk3, this is a totally different conversion as the managment is often the same and loom and even the engine mounts etc. Even on the early mk3 it is easy to weld the xtrra support to the inner wing to fit the zetec and swap the loom.
What you seem to be asking for is totally different which is a duratec engine in a Mk5 the engine mounts are not the same the cam cover will most likely hit the bonnet as it is higher than the old zetec engine, the gearbox fitment is totally different and will not bolt to your current configeration. You will also need to swap the management and have a loom made to run it.
I don't think anyone wants to put a downer on the project but more let you know this is a specialised conversion and I'm not sure the quote you have includes things such as custom engine mounts, welding, new loom, Engine management and key reprograming

I dont think fitting a zetec-e to a mk3 is easy but its perfectly possible which is the point made. The garage highlighted all those issues, assuring me its not a problem.
The qoute we agreed on includes/budgeted for any fabrication, welding and wiring to have the car on the road safe and legal.

that would be pumabuilds car

and the welding he did on mine leaves little to the imagination looked more like bird shi7 and had to be redone when the bottom mount snapped

still cant grumble just something else to add to the list of f**k ups

Sorry i have not had a chance to reply the car started having problems so it went back in to be fixed, finally got it back last week, which was really annoying but the boys were good about the problems, fixing them under warrenty.

It goes pretty well now the silly niggles were ironed out, now pulls cleanly and really drivable. I took it for a blast late last night and it reminded me of the old rs turbo's a little lifeless under 4,000 but becomes perky above that with plenty of grunt. I dont think its all that fast but its so quite, smooth and flexible its a joy to drive. I think they said its about 145bhp, but its really tunable one of the boys said the guy who sorted them out with the fitting bits claimed they do 250-300bhp with throttle bodies and more when charged!

Anyway it been valeted today and i taken some pictures for you guys which i get developed then posted sometime this week when i get a spare minute.
