Default Cossie fuel pump runs continuously - why??!!

Hi all,

My saff cossie fuel pump has recently started to run continuously (with the ignition switched on) instead of buzzing up to pressure and shutting off as normal.
Is this a problem with the fuel pressure regulator? I think a gushing can be heard from the back where the fuel is being returned to the tank

Please help, your suggestions would be much appreciated

Thanks and regards

Weeksy

sounds like the relay in the fusebox is sticking and keeping the circuit closed at all times.

what year is the saff?

Hi mate,

It is an 89 2WD.

I though the circuit was shut off by pressure, I take it that it is a trime delay circuit with this relay?
Is it a common prob?
Cheers

has it always done it?

Is so, more than likely the fuel pump relaly wiring has been altered so that pump runs contineously

No, not at all.

As far as I am aware, it's all as it should be. I fitted a 044 pump and new filter. I laid it up for a year or so, and this is what it is doing now!! It had a silly fuel cut off switch in the cassette box, that has been disconnected, other than that, all as it should be!

its probably the pink fuel relay thats sticking then - they can be a problem as they overheat and the contacts weld themselves together - and since you have put an uprated pump in, i suspect that this is what has happened

Change the fuel pump relay and see how you get on

If it is the problem and all is good after changing the relay, then run some heavy duty 30 amp wire from the battery to the fuel pump and have the original wiring switch a relay instead of the pump directly.

Try changing the relay first mate, see if you can borrow someone's just to try out for a minute.
