sounds like poss the router isnt getting an IP from your ISP, have u tried rebooting everything as I have to with my configuration for the router to get an IP.
have u logged onto router to check "status" and see if it has a proper IP, and not one starting with 169.

hi
thanks for the replies, if i connect with a patch lead then everythings fine, if i use wireless i get a signal but cant connect or ping, but if i use my old toshiba then wireless works fine no probs so i figured maybe the vaio needed setting up

may have found the reason, it says its a security enabled network, so would i need to enter a network key? as i have ticked "provide one automatically" could this be why? and if so where do i get the key as i cant find it on the config pages for the router

I always specify WEP. Create a code in hexidecimal and put it in the router (usually in wireless/encryption menu) and save the setting. Then on the laptop try and connect to the network and it should offer a key window, drop the code in there (usually twice ) and that should be it.
Hope this helps.

yes that would be why gra
wep is set up on the AP, and getting one automatically wont be any good.
unless you know the password/key, reset the router completely and set up again.
