Default Metal ticking noise when engine is warm ???

What could it be ?

Coming from the cam pully side.

I've changed the valve springs and tappets

It only does it when the engine/oil is warm

Was there any play/wear in the bore when you had the engine out? My old red RST had a tapping noise like yours, it only happened when hot.

I replaced the cam and tappets but turned out to be play in the bore of the block.

Not that i could see. This noise started happening the last time it was alive..... Track National Day 2003 !!!

So it could be the engine.......

Hairline Cracked manifold? As it gets hotter it expands? Probably somewhere you cant see it too.

Mine was 3 snapped exhaust manifold studs, had exactly the same symptoms.

Only did it after i had given it a good boot!

Friend said it was the noise the valves make just as they open/close, when the manifold was warm it opened up a very small gap which made it possible to hear them

Borrow a type of stethascope (spl) tool used for pin pointing noises

That's how we know my injectors make a racket, and not the cam PMSL

I'd put money on it being an exhaust manifold gasket, loose studs etc

Have a poke at this first as the bits are cheapest
