Got any links to the changes in law?

They certainly cant ban you knowing about cameras, or the new AA map would be illegal, lol

I currently use the RoadPilot Micro. This has laser detection that can be "relocated" quite easily.

However it got 'lost' when the cossie was off the road. Now I'm so paranoid I RAG it to seventy up the slip roads.. and then just sit there looking in my rear view lol.

No issues with Laser at all, got zapped by one on the A47 on Thursday night.

As for car, i inherited my dad's virtually new Kia when he died earlier in the year.

Worked a treat going up to TOTB and picked up everything except a temporary one in roadworks on the A1. Going so slow it didnt matter.

Bought mine purely as an investment in my clean driving licence.

Daveyboy, Cola,

dont worry about the speed cameras on m4, between London and Cardiff, as you'll never drive down it

The Government will not be prohibiting those devices that rely on Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to warn drivers of published camera sites or posted speed limits, as these compliment the Government's policy to ensure that camera sites are visible and conspicuous to drivers, and so help deter excessive and inappropriate speeds on the roads. However, the provisions of the Bill mean it will be possible to prohibit a vehicle being fitted with, or a person using a vehicle carrying "speed assessment equipment detection devices" under the Construction and Use Regulations (SI 1986/1078).

Does that mean I will no longer be able to use my Snooper S4 Neo Life safer these things Specs camera's galore in Corby yesterday

you can use the gps based detector but not the smaller laser detector. My dad uses a snooper s4 neo and has never let him down.

At the moment everything is legal.

I have an Origin I recommend it. I tend to agree with Spiky on not needing one. But you only have to be unlucky once. So buy one, but dont rely totally on it. i.e Keep looking around and being observant. Just use it as a safety net.

i think its pointless you should be well aware of local speed cameras and keep an eye out for new roadside/ mobile units while you drive anyway, its basic driving concentration to look ahead!

The speed cameras which are most likely to catch you, you are not able to detect with any fo the systems, ie the unmarked police car sat behind you while you do 100+ down the m4 etc!

lol @ James RST. I'll have you know I'm about to take my undertake my Advanced Driving Test. As well as that I have an abnormal fear of traffic police so as Rich says, better ti be safe than sorry.

You can't usually see people hiding in bushes on country lanes that you don't know

Why not? My old one did!

Cheers for all your help though, loads to investigate.

Pretty sure DETECTORS aint gonna be made illegal, spoke to Blackspot (makers of Road Angel) a bit back, it is like b4 they were totally legalised back in the day lol, even then it wasnt illegal to have a DETECTOR in your car it was only illegal to act upon information given by it , and then they made them 100% legal, so what argument have they got to revoke and reverse the law , dont think they are actually come out and say it so we can make more moneny somehow

Will ring Blackspot again in the morning and find out what any proposed changes mean to DETECTORS, after all the new Angel aint been out that long really, and doubt a company would build a design that would become obsolete within a year or so, due to it having an inbuilt detector

theres another reason they cant ban the gps system, its another law that has fook all to do with speed cameras though !!!!!!

its to do with gps, cant remember what

the laser will be made illegal but that is shite anyway

oh and as for the "you should all know the cameras blah blah blah"

bollox, go to a car show fopr the first time and see a trvelo camera and its got ya, with a detector ya see it before ya get to the bend rather than brake after it

oh and fixed camera sites are in danger areas where theres a big risk of crashes, saying ya cant find where they are aint gonna help avoid the danger spots, so gps sytems are doing a good thing as they help alert drivers of acident spots as well as schools ect

theres a saftey aid not a speed camera detector
